picture this(below)...but only with a lil black boy in the early 90's

until jr-high i listened mainly to 70's/60's soul, tho on occasion i would catch artists of the time on the car radio, or sneaking to watch MTV (we weren't allowed until we decided we didn't care)

These two albums

My dad bought them for my older sister and me back in '89 and we would play the hell out of them.

When I was little, my dad would play the guitar and my whole family would sing along. Buddy Holly and early Beatles were his favorites and so they were mine until I was about 8-9 and started listening to my own radio stations and asking for my own music. The first 3 albums I owned were Like a Virgin, Thriller and Purple Rain.

I'm still a fan of my parent's music to this day, though.

When I was little I had one of these portable record players that played 45's

then I found a stack of my Nana's Gilbert & Sullivan records, that got me hooked on light opera. I was 9 or 10 but man did I love The Mikado or Pirates of Penzance!

1984 I heard and watched Purple Rain for the first time so that's where my love for the little man stems from.

In 1985 a friend let me listen to the new RUN D.M.C. album of the same name, which led to me going to my very first concert EVER. Run D.M.C. , LL Cool J & Whodini. Amazing experience and I was hooked! I've loved hip hop/ rap ever since.

My tastes run a wide range and I'll listen to anything at least once. However, I have never, ever understood the appeal or appreciation of Country Music. Sorry folks...

It was my Mom. She always had music playing when I was growing up. I grew up listening to Aretha Franklin,Patti LaBelle,Smokey Robinson, and mostly popular black artists. My Mom has had people tell her she should have been born black. lol I use to listen to this one when I was little, and the sirens in the beginning use to scare me. lol

Paper Lace- The Night Chicago Died

and I still like this one...

see now that's different... I agree with you on that but I don't rope that in with "Country Music" ala Billy Ray Cyrus or Garth Brooks.

Does it help if I loved the soundtrack to "Oh brother where art thou"... Oh Death and Man of Constant Sorrow are on hit!

I know the first song I heard EVER. Or at least it's the first song I remember hearing. I must have been 4 years old. It was the song PUT THE LIME IN THE COCONUT. So I guess that got me into music.

I have an eclectic taste in music.

it had to have been the late 70's

I'm currently wearing a cowlneck sweater, but I can only dream of having Marlo Thomas hair.

I don't remember what or when, I've had a love of music ever since I can remember... when I was 5 years old I used to tape music of the radio and make my own mixes. That's how I got into Kiss and Prince among others.

been a big part of me for all my living memory twocents
