I've just been let down

Well beginning of the year friends of mine were going to have our daughter for us while we went to France to decorate our property. Anyway a week prior to this we were let down big time, they couldn't have our daughter and our bro in law who was meeting us there wasn't guarenteed a place on the train coz of the tunnel fire. Anyway its my partner and my brother-in-law going now and I'm stuck at home looking after the baby! Anyone else ever been let down big time? Its so upsetting being let down especially when you are relying on that person, its been booked for months and they let us down one week previous to us going!

Its crap isn't it? Thought I was just being too much of a drama queen, but it is harsh when you have been let down big time, don't think I could do it to my mates. I was meant to be goin this Sat, was so looking forward to it, instead my partner will be travelling with my bro in law and not me! I hate being let down and in future I will never rely on anyone ever again unless its myself because thats the only person you can rely on!

What no more ferries? What about the Hovercraft they used to have (which was a fun but bumpy ride...)

Easyjet?

Are you out any money for tickets or anything?

Sometimes in situations like this a verbal agreement is enough to put them in an actionable position. If you're feeling vindictive, that is.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

My brother-in-law would have to catch a certain time train to get his connecting train in Paris. The train he is on has been cancelled so he would have to get the earlier train but because of the tunnel fire there is no guarentee he would get this train. Anyway hes getting his money back and travelling down with my partner in the lorry which will be full of furniture and stuff to decorate our property there. This does mean I'll be around next week to come on here! wink

If someone did that to me, I'd have a hard time with the friendship.

it is hard to go through but from your story I can't see whether the people involved have valid reasons to not be able to take care of your little one.

I wouldn't trust any of my friends with my kids (now what does that say about me or my friends ? wink ), I think I'd take them with me (and that's 3 lively boys :p )

they couldn't have our daughter

The entire balance of the thread is in these words. Why couldn't they? What was their excuse?

Something had come up to do with their work, they have to go to a meeting which is after we come back but they told us they needed the week before to get stuff ready. They are one of a very few that I would actually trust to look after our daughter. We booked our time away around them because they said that week would be fine and we've had it booked for months and to be let down one week before we are due to go I have found quite upsetting. They had their reason which is fair enough but I just could'nt do that to a friend.

I agree with this sentiment. If you make a commitment, if you give someone your word --- that means you agree to do it, not change your mind if something else comes along. If they thought there were reasons that would make them bail on the commitment, they should have given a heads up in advance. Personally, I think if they had made the promise, they should shuffle, change or cancel the meeting. Or find some way to resolve it, while fulfilling the commitment. Or at least, make an offer to make up for it!

I'm sorry. That sucks.

In general, once someone's let me down, I distance myself somewhat from that relationship. I certainly don't count on them for anything again. lol

This may sound harsh but, it's part of being a parent.
It isn't the load that breaks us down, it's the way we carry it.

I can't see (from my work and parenting background) an unability to prepare for a meeting while taking care of 1 kid but the decision is still at their discretion and it wouldn't break or make the friendship if it were me. My kids are still my responsibility, whatever happens or whatever arrangements are made.

It is a bummer but this stuff just happens.
