I've always cared deeply about young people. As a rich college-bound student, I once joined some underprivileged youths in saving a community center from being converted into a shopping mall.

I did do some charity work, back when I was younger. I didn't care for it. Did you know they don't pay you for your labour? confused

...But seriously, folks... Yes, I've done charity work (food banks, etc.).

yes!

I used to work with kids, teaching them to read. I've done food bank stuff, I've painted boxes that would carry holiday groceries to people living with HIV/AIDS, and lots more stuff.

Yes. I've donated time to a women's shelter. And I've helped a flood victim get settled into her new home. My work gives me 8 hours of volunteer time off each year. This year they gave us an additional 8 hours since we had some displaced co-workers.

My company makes it really easy to do volunteer work as well. We actually have a volunteer council and it'a fairly heavily promoted. There are opportunities all the time (which is how I would spend an hour a week helping at a local school, during the work day, etc.) and every department I've been in, the entire exec team usually does regular events together as "team building". I've even seen employees recognized at work for the great volunteer stuff they're doing outside of work.

It's really nice to work for a company that puts their money where their mouth is when it comes to community service.

My mum owns a charity shop, I ran it for her several times. I also volunteered to raise benefits for the catholic rescue mission, organizing a secondhand trade.
Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity
