Anxiety

1. i love that anyone anywhere can learn about and immerse themselves in whatever kind of culture they desire, whether they live in the most overstimulated hipster neighborhoods of new york city, or if they live in the middle of a cornfield in iowa. when i was a kid growing up in a midwestern hick town, there was so much i wanted to know and learn and surround myself with, but i didn't have the resources to discover everything i wanted to see and hear and learn. the library was some help. actually, it was a lot of help. and every now and again a really cool show would come on tv like "night flight" on USA network or the early days of MTV's "120 minutes", but that was still barely a trickle. now, if i'm curious about something i heard referenced in a magazine, i'm just a google away from knowing every single last damn thing about it, PLUS i'm sure i could find some lovely discussion forum where people can tell me all the reasons it sucks and is completely overrated. and THAT has changed my life for the better.

2. i have met so many people through the org, and i have kept in touch and reunited with so many people through sites like myspace and facebook. i just reconnected with my best friend from high school recently - we've been out of touch for at least 20 years - incredible stuff. i feel like there are less "long lost" people who are missing from my life, and if i'm not in constant contact with someone these days, it's just because we don't have anything to tell each other at the moment. i like feeling connected with other people that way, and being someone who HATES talking on the phone and LOVES writing, the method of communication is an added bonus. biggrin

1. Instant info/downloads.

2. Socializing. I'm a hermit so the net lets me 'get out' more. Plus I don't need to use telephones as much.

3. Love. I'd already met my now wife, but the internet allowed us to continue our friendship thousands of miles away from each other by chat, e-mails, webcam etc. and in the end the friendship turned into love and ultimately marriage. I never imagined I'd be where I am and with who I am, and the internet made it possible. Take away the net and I'd probably have an education, a good career, be making decent money, have my own nice house to live in, a car, fancy clothes, a trillion GB iPod and a hole in my heart that really one could only feel using hindsight and some imagination. But still...

.

Internet is what you make of it yourself. If you use it in a wrong way it will come back and bite you on the ass.

I love it for

Music (Mr Download here)
Entertainment (Org, chat etc)
Porn (getting fucking laid)

He just said that cuz if he had said the truth ('I wanna be rimmed into the next kingdom by Dan') he knew Dan would be on the next plane.

Met someone (or a couple-who may be one in the same) who made me feel alive for the first time in a very long while. THAT was a great thing however, I can't
figure out for sure who it is/was and get things talked out some things I'd
like to know but other than that-it was great.

obsessed

4 actually...

~met my best friend~
~met other great people as well~
~learned a lot about myself~
and
~learned to appreciate the world
and all it had to offer~

and the most important thing is that I'm
striving to keep learning more about
myself and the world, as well.

So, for the most part, the internet has been a "friend"
