this is crazy to think back on, but when i was a little boy my mom worked as manager in a christian bookstore, so at night when i went to bed she would read to me out of a book of jesus fairy tales. seriously, she had two volumes she would read to me from. and she would pull my stand-up chalkboard to the side of the bed and draw a picture from the story before she started reading it to me, and when i went to sleep she'd arrange letters on the magnet board on the other side...so when i woke up, the first thing i'd see was her drawing from the night before, and then when i got out of bed there'd be a message waiting for me on the other side. it was the cutest thing ever.
postscript: my mom declared herself an atheist by the time i graduated high school.

The only book I can remember ever being read to me is The Hobbit.
My uncle used to make up incredible stories and tell them to my cousin and me when I would sleep over her house. I read to my kids every night starting from when they were small babies. The Normal Whores Club
