Finally aware that she would not return to him, stands beside her body with sadness and sorrow

pics of dead birds would be included.

i've seen mourning doves do that before...

I agree. I mean, it's good that otherwise insensitive people will be exposed to the fact that animals suffer when those they love die (and there are people who believe that animals have no feelings), but in itself, it's a very sad and strange thread.

I think it's actually quite touching... sad, really. People often forget that animals have feelings too. I hope when kids with BB guns see something like this that they think twice before they shoot at a "dumb bird" again.

at the calgary zoo we were told about how one of the female gorillas suffered a bad grand mal seizure and how the male gorilla sat by her side for three days. unfortunately for the female it meant the zookeepers could not get her medical attention as you don't enter the enclosure when the male is present.

he brought her food... ALL the food meant for all the gorillas. he wouldn't let anyone else have any of it. he himself went without food or water for the entire time. and when his own juvenile daughter came too close he picked her up and tossed her across the space. as the keeper was telling us the story i couldn't help but cry. eventually he relented that there was nothing he could do but by then it was too late.
