facebook question You know, there's a reason I didn't join it for forever. Then a bunch of my friends posted pics from a recent trip we went on together there and that seemed my only way to see the pics - to open an account. So I did. And now someone I barely knew from high school found me. And I thought it rude to decline the friend request. But now I'm getting requests from all kinds of people I barely knew in high school and have no intention of getting to know now. Is it utterly rude to decline them all? |

I don't see declining people you do not desire contact with as rude at all ![]()

I don't think its rude. And if you don't want to be found so easily

No, it's not rude.....but somehow I feel honored that you've requested me to be your friend!!! [Edited 9/3/08 16:08pm]

i don't think it's rude. on the other hand, i've had the same thing happen. i just accept the request and they usually don't bug me afterwards. if they do, i can delete them from my list - they don't get a notification when i delete them, and by the time they find out what i did, they probably understand that it's not a great idea to send me another request.
but nobody's really bothered me so far and i've yet to have to resort to that.

if someone from work tried to add me, i would decline with one hand and use my other hand to pinch my nipples with wicked wanton glee. that was probably TMI, but i wanted to be clear.

You're sharing all kinds of info about yourself on there.
I've declined/ignored/blocked more than a few requests.

lol that's how they get us hold-outs! the damn pictures! i felt weird not accepting every tom dick and harry but then friends told me that you could accept and then remove later. they would be none the wiser unless they totally scoured all their 243 names on their friends list. in the mean time when you accept them you get to look at their photos and see who aged well and who didn't

I've declined/ignored/blocked more than a few requests. there are people i've run into on facebook who i haven't talked to since WAY before i came out. i really want to follow up with them and see how they are with that, even though i'm sure they've probably had bigger shocks in their lives.

Ooh, I deleted someone and she keeps re-requesting. She rode on my school bus from grades 1-12 and I (still) think she's a beeyotch.

You know, I think that is a key part. The girl from by school bus now lives in like England.

I too recently opened a facebook account just to see what all the hype was about and I'm suitably unimpressed... All the people that I've seen or met there are like sheeple...

She rode on my school bus from grades 1-12 and I (still) think she's a beeyotch. hell, if someone i hated from school tried to request me, i would take great delight in denying them and being very specific and articulate about my reasons why. i might even find a way to express myself in rhyme - the magic of poetry always gets the message across!

I added a whole bunch of people I went to school with, but very rarely interact with them. They're just a picture in my friend list. I'm on Facebook more at the moment though.

Some people don't want to put all of their information on Facebook. Some people don't want people tracking them down.
One of my friends made a fake profile name, and gave people he knew in real life the fake name. That way he could still lurk and communicate if he wanted to, but didn't have to announce everything. It was a bit strange, but he's a freethinker like RenHoek.
