Or would you put your teenage daughter on birth control?

No, I'm not asking for advice lol mad...I was just curious as to what everyone here thought on the subject. (mods, this isn't meant as political, so hopefully it doesn't get lumped into that category).

And if your daughter didn't want to go on birth control, what would you do or say? hmmm...

Just some thoughts that have been on my mind, especially since I do have a teenage daughter...

Very good topic and I ahve a daughter who is about to turn 13 as well.I never given it much thought( thank you for bringing this to my attention honestly).

That's my favorite method too or the one where I'm chopping wood out front with a BIG ASS AXE even though we live in an apartment complex (well I don't but I'd move just to prove a point lol) or the one where I'm practicing baseball swings on a variety of melons or the one where I'm skinning and dressing roadkill while the theme for deliverance plays softly in the background (ok, now I've gone too far...)

I have a house rule for my boys.... no full time job = no dating.

You will not be a broke ass on someone's couch with nothing to do but have sex.
You want to date ... get and keep a job. Until then, focus on school and sports.
I scared my son when I fully described the vagina and how to make a woman cum.
I was wayyyy too graphic lol 17 and so far so good, although I do let him watch porn in his room. I just let him and I don't ask. eek

For my daughter who is now six...the same applies. Dude will have to have a job if he wants to date her. And at 15 if she asks for BC I will hook her up, even with a dildo and bullets etc. if she wants. I want her to learn her body before she tries to figure stuff out with a boy. Give a girl her "she-bop" time too.

I think I'll let my daughter discover the wonderful world of toys all by herself lol neutral...

If my mother EVER had/did come up to to me with any kind of toy that would make me never want to have sex....EVER! shrug

So maybe that is the right way to go painted. lol

My daughter is 13 and on birth control. I will not let her go what I went through as a teen parent. I asked at 15 to be put on BC and my mother told me to get the hell out of her face. Two years later, I was pregnant. 13 may sound real young but I know of guys who first had sex at 9 or 10 years old and my daughter has a friend who gave birth at 13.

I'd suggest it to her as soon as I knew she was sexually active. I would make it clear that it's her choice, not mine. My preference would be that she uses condoms, regardless of whether she's on the pill or not.

Just because the pill is prescribed doesn't mean it's taken. I think parents sometimes forget that.

The pill is not 100% effective, even if taken properly. Two people should use BC instead of just the one person.

as i said in the other thread 12 year old girl CAN become pregnant if they have already started their menstral cycles( i started at age 9) tough decision yes but something to keep in mind as well. Kids are having sex at a much younger age then you think.

At that age, though, you're most likely making the decision for her, she's not coming to you and saying she thinks she's ready for birth control pills lol nod...I would love to believe that, at least during a girl's first 11-12 years on earth, that her parents' guidance, love, counseling and examples of how to live would be an effective deterrent to sex for the most part.

I think you misunderstood my post. Birth control isnt used just for birth control in some cases, its used for acne and regulating a girls monthly out. I asked my own mother and my doctor was there in the room when I asked her so rather you beleive thing or not its your business some girls CAN HAVE a close relationship with their moms about such things. They are teaching sex ed in schools or did you not know about this(usually in 4-8th grades)? Read the papers and statisics there ARE 12 year old girls having babies.nod What wool is over your eyes needs to be taken off real quick. Please google 12 year lds having babies you might be surprised nod

I am not arguing nor starting a fight with you, I am speaking ONLY from MY experience. Every ones experience is different. NEITHER the pill or condoms are 100% effective method of birth control and the differences between the two. Condoms do have a side effect as well some ARE allergic to material they use to make them(women and men alike) , then there comes the spermicidal gels and creams same with those as being as effective as the pill or condom. I started at age 12 using the birth control pill for acne use ONLY I was NOT sexually active then until age 15 or 16. But the more I think about it Im glad I was on it. Many of the girls in my high school was pregnant, I was not. I CHOOSE to get my schooling out of the way before starting or having kids.Afer schooling and moved out of my parents home I went off hte pill wanting to start a family. It took 3 years for it to get out of my system cause I was on it for so long. At 21 I had my daughter and the rest is history.

The decision is diffucult and weighs on the person(s) with pros and cons about the product they use.

(BTW I do have a bit of medical background in the medical field so does my own mother.)

I think what someone said above rings true, that there's no "magical" age for every parent to start worrying. I have a niece who just turned 18 and she's just barely beginning to notice boys. Up until, oh, last year, you'd mention her having a boyfriend and she'd scowl. Boys still had the cooties.
I was a late bloomer myself. I remember a rumor going around when I was in 9th grade that some girl had given some guy a blow job and my only thought was it couldn't possibly be true cause no one our age (14-15) would ever, EVER possibly do something like that. redface

I don't think there is an age limit to the birth control issue. I'd put my daughter on birth control as soon as I found out she was sexually active.
In response to your third paragraph, after explaining the difficulties teen-aged parents face in the world and the risk of std's, I think any daughter would want to be on some form of birth control. (Unless your mother happens to My daughter turns 15 in November by the way. Damn, I was so hoping I could convince her to be a lesbian, but I think she digs guys. Oh well! lol
