agreed. I say ipod, if only for the sound. The sound level of the Zune was horrific. Too low. Perhaps I didn't have it long enough to figure out how to raise it above 20 but I couldn't have that in my mp3 player so I went ipod. But the screen on the Zune is 1,000,000 times better nod

Since we're asking questions. How the hell do you convert a picture or video for an ipod? I can't figure that out.

I have a Zune and it does the job. I don't like the software program you have to use on the computer though. It doesn't seem as organized as iTunes and you can't add as much info to the songs. I got the Zune for free, otherwise I would have prefered an iPod.

Oh and as for the volume issue...it does only go up to 20, which is fine for me. I ride the NYC subway and rarely turn it up past 15. (Only for songs that are from really old albums--like Dirty Mind or my Sam Cooke cds.) But I also don't need to have my eardrums blasted out when listening on earphones, so 20 is fine for me. shrug

iPod by far.

I've owned one since Day 1 and they're still the best MP3 players. Every time the gap is closed (thanks to competitors smartly copying its features), something new comes out (like the iPod Touch last time).

I've had a few minor problems in the last 7 years, but they've been very reliable overall. I shudder to think back at that horrible Creative Nomad I had before the iPod. disbelief

The thing that annoys me the most about the iPod, is the lack of expansion possibility. What's so difficult about adding a memory card slot?
Don't get me wrong, my mom bought the iPod Touch and I loved playing with it, and I'd love to own one, because I'm a gadget freak. But if you're looking for an MP3 player, go for something that sounds good, simple to use, and concentrates on giving the best in playing music, and you can find MP3 players in fraction of the price of the iPod.

Really? There's an iPod at just about every price point (and soon to be new ones, it seems). The iPod captured the market and continues to hold it because it still offers the best combination of ease of use, features, form factor, and reliability.

Reliability???
Haven't you heard all the horror stories of people losing their files, batteries costing so much to replace and just iPods dying out of no reason?
Feature? Expect for the Touch, the rest don't have anything special that others don't. And I don't consider the iPod Touch to be an MP3 player. It's just another feature of it.
Apple asks for a lot more money for the name. It limits many by keeping full control over their products. (see the lawsuit against a company that offered OSX on PC computers).
Again, I love their products, they are cool. I'd love to own some of them, but overpriced.

You need to install a converter on your computer to convert the files into Quicktime MP4 files.....it's a bitch, and for a good converter you'll have to pay!
Personally I don't care much for it, I think watching video on an iPod is stupid.....just listen to what the great David Lynch says:

Sure, I've heard lots of stories. Of the millions and millions of iPods that have been sold, these problems are few and far between. BTW, batteries aren't expensive to replace at all.

Feature? Expect for the Touch, the rest don't have anything special that others don't. And I don't consider the iPod Touch to be an MP3 player. It's just another feature of it.

The iPod has always had the right mix of features, which have been copied as the competition tries to catch up.

The full control Apple has over its products is one of the main reasons they work so well. Furthermore, iPods aren't overpriced at all -- as they say, you pay for what you get. I've used a lot of MP3 players and the iPod is by far the nicest to use; that experience is worth something to many people. Likewise, there are plenty of people who are willing to pay extra for an "overpriced" Mercedes.
