I believe that the human mind is one powerful engine. I see both questions to have the same answer with that in mind.

It's hard to say, but I tend to think that if U look for some deeper meaning or sign, U'll usually think U see it but doesn’t give things independant meaning, just personal validation. I also think that perhaps believing in coincidence may blind ones' ability to distinguish certain things.

I believe in the Universe. I believe that the Universe protects us and puts things as they ought to be. If you don't believe in that then I guess it may seem like nothing but a coincidence. However, I believe and have soooo many examples of times when I was protected. Other times (on smaller levels )things really are just coincidences.

Coincidences in the sense of "it just happened" don't exist. Nothing happens without a cause. That is not the same as saying that something happens "with a purpose" or that the universe/life/god whatever directs what happens. It's also something different whether we ourselves can actually control what happens. To some degree we can, but usually we can't.
