There is a "Manually Manage Music" option that you can check. I don't know much about it (and to be honest, I don't really get why you'd do it like that). I really don't get why you'd delete an album that's on your iPod; isn't that why you lost the 2% of your music when the Zune died?

like in case an album, thats already on the ipod, gets accidentally deleted on my hard drive...i'd hate to connect the ipod and then it automatically be deleted because it can't be found on the hard drive

Oh, OK. Still, it's pretty hard to accidentally delete songs from iTunes. When you delete a file, the default is to keep it where it is (just deleting the reference in the database). The other option is to send it to the Trash (the Recycle Bin on Windows). Either way, the files are still there.

Probably, but I don't do it like that. I copy the sound files to the iPod (using it as a hard drive) and then copy the files to my iTunes library when I get home. You can't listen to them until you get home that way, but it's not a problem for me.

Because they're a pain in the neck compared to MP3 players and Sony crippled them for so long.

hmmm I've never seen that before. Are you adding all of your songs to the iPod? You could try just adding a few songs first to see if they show up. I have more songs than my iPhone can hold, so I just sync a few playlists to it.

Also, if you have a lot of WMA files, the conversion will probably take a while. I probably should've told you to just put the MP3 files on the iPod for today and then you could've put the converted files on it when you got home.
