I friggin LOVE the farmer's market! Locally owned produce and grocery stores too. ![]() Today I shambled on over to the nearest little corner grocer, because I can't abide what Save-On charges for, well, anything. Nevermind fruits and veggies they have shipped in from Guatemala or wherever. At this amazing little place I bought a litre of milk, a baggie o' carrots, fresh snap peas, a bottle of salad dressing, a newspaper, AND some candy. For 6 bucks. ![]() You try doing THAT at any of the big grocery chains. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Vegetables aren't supposed to be uniform. I happen to like lumpy potatoes with dirt in their eyes. They tend to taste like potatoes instead of cardboard like the grocery store picture-perfect ones do. Know what freaks me out? Those pre-packaged things of "baby carrots" that are perfectly shaped into little finger-sized pieces. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I hate grocery store strawberries the most. They're grown down in California, then put in a truck before they're ripe and shipped up to Canada still green. They eventually turn red with age, but the lack of proper sun means they just taste like water. What a waste of money. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

God, it's been so long since I bought any fresh produce at a grocery store. But the reasons you said are exactly why I did stop. Expensive as anything, no flavour, and they're not even locally grown. Luckily for me it's blacberry season now, and there's a HUGE patch of them growing by the road about 7 blocks from here. I don't work until 5 pm tomorrow. I think maybe I'll go get some blacberries in the morning. ![]() "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I'm really lucky because we have farmland nearby so have some farm shops and smallholdings around our village. Our nearest town has a farmers market once a month - if I'm home, I love to go.
