what are your best b'day presents ever?

for me it was

a van for my Barbies when I was 7

Super Mario All Stars for super nintendo

a Sony boombox

a Sony discman when those were new

I barely get them now, but for my 25th I did get a video camera that I paid half for, I'd been wanting one for ages and never got a chance.

my 14th birthday - i woke up after my mom had left for work, and she had arranged on the kitchen table every prince album (on vinyl, no less) from 'for you' through 'purple rain', along with the first two time albums. it was the first time i'd heard any of those albums except for purple rain, so i spent all day on my 14th birthday listening to all prince's albums (circa 1984, anyway) for the first time. cloud9

oh yeah how could I forget, my first order ever from Columbia House, 13 CD's that arrived around my 13th birthday, which was VERY exciting at the time.

and getting 2 mj albums from a friend who knew I liked him, but that helped me LOVE him.

lol I'm at the age to where I can't remember what B-days that I got what, but here's what I can recall for best B-day memories:

- Had a birthday party (10th or 11th b-day I think?) at this place called Farrell's; it's an ice cream shoppe that lets families throw parties there, and all my lil homies came. Cool shit.

- When I lived in Houston, for my 26th B-day, me and the fellas basically took over this restaurant called Pappadeaux's and turned that bitch out with a $337.23 bill! (Yeah, I remember that shit to the last cent because brothas was passin' the bill around sayin' "Uh, ok, I just ordered THIS; that's not mine" lol). Then we went over to the strip club for my very 1st strip club experience and the shit was kinda "dirty" - not my kinda vibe to get into lol.

- Then last year, my homegirl that does entertainment promotions put me on the list to see Cherokee and I was able to meet her, kick it, and get a copy of her hard-to-find unreleased CD and she signed it.

When I first moved to Germany in '95 I had no relatives near by and no friends just yet, aside from my co-workers. They heard it was my B-day and they took me to this German bar or "kneipe"...

as they're known for beer, beer and more beer...
So after several rounds of several rounds of several rounds they, knowing I was an American, had the DJ throw on Stevie Wonder's rendition of the Birthday Song, made me get up on a table in the middle of the bar, called my 'rents on a cell phone and I and about 300 drunken German's all sang along in the loudest most drunken fashion possible.

It was AWESOME! woot!

To be honest...I can't say any present I have gotten was the "best" present ever. I enjoy all the gifts given to me. So...I guess all my gifts were the "best" present ever. biggrin

My favorite birthday is when my late wife took me to NYC to see the taping of the first "Chris Rock Show" for HBO, featuring musical guest Prince! He performed "Face Down" and afterward he sang "Happy birthday" to Chris Rock becuase it was his birthday as well! A very nice day indeed!

This year I had a fantastic birthday.

I was alone in a hotel room for much of the day but Reception kept coming up with different things - balloons, chocolates, flowers. I really did feel special, especially looking through the little viewhole thing and seeing a mass of balloons with legs poking out of the bottom. It could have been lonely but thanks to friends, family and the hotel it turned out really lovely.

I think I have to agree with you on that. However someone is taking me to see Kathy Griffin for my birthday in October so that might give previous presents a run for their money.

One cool birthday I had was last year...

my sister and my best friend took me to the South End to this trendy restaurant for Tapas and drinks, then we did a dinner murder mystery theater thing in the North End, that was so fun! After that we rode through the North End drunk as hell on a carriage pulled by a cyclist... all the pear/apple trees were in full blossom and the night was perfect. We ended the evening by going to the best oyster bar in town, I had martini's and the best raw oysters! Then they bought me a cake from Mike's Pastry shop, which me and my kids killed the following day.

Definitely what I remember being most excited as a child:

And yes...I still have it to this day. My kids are like WTF! how did you play video games with this!!!!

The sweetest thing I ever got as an adult was this strip of fabric that had some very simple embroidery on it. It was from my baby girl.

Just this year, my middle daughter drew me a picture that had her and I holding hands and across the top was a rainbow and she wrote "Happy Birthday Dad, I love you!" I thought that was the best present ever.

touched

Until I opened the iPod The Wife bought me, much better than some drawing.
