Are you trying to tell me that you wouldn't bang that hunk of a man??? Horseshit!!! Well, he looks almost exactly like my dad now. Considering I'm fast becoming a daddy type, I think that would be more than a little perverse.

What's his illness? | |

I have to admit that the moment I saw this picture, I cried...I recognized that "moon face" as they call it - that the drug (Prednisone) my father took to prolong his life for another year (he died 4 years ago) does to its receiver. So I just had to look up the article... And I was right...it did terrible things to my father's face especially, and he looked very different than the father I knew for so many years.
I don't mean to add sadness to this thread, but I cannot help but share this with you - in case anyone you love one day has to take this medication. My dad's Rheumatoid arthritis eventually took his life. Jerry Lewis said: JERRY LEWIS: It's 17 months. I am trying to break out of what the prednisone does. Dr. MICHAEL DeBAKEY said it is the greatest worst drug ever invented.[...]

JERRY: I got the pulmonary fibrosis in May 2001. In October, a good four weeks after the telethon, my lung collapsed, and they rushed me to ICU.
You can read the rest of the story in my above post, which is where I took the quote from.

I wasn't aware his appearance was the result of medication. I know he had health problems, but I figured he just gained weight massively.
I apologize if my joke offended anyone.

It's cool, I miss him VERY MUCH. He was in so much pain, I am sure that his death only gave him peace.

I also saw a great interview with him on Larry King right before Labor day. I can't remember all of the details, but apparently he also has some horribly chronic pain situation with his spine that's plagued him for years and the new medications are giving him relief for the first time in years, although, he unfortunately has the weight gain as a side effect. My dad has a similar condition that has prompted him and his physicians to consider going this route (with this particular treatment), but, certainly, we are going to consider this very carefully before jumping into it. It really sucks, because in America, we're not as advanced technologically or pharmaceutically as some Europen countries for back or spinal problems, and often patients at home are left to go the Jerry Lewis route or, (if they're old enough like my parents), are simply prescribed opiates for the rest of their natural lives...

I sure was laughing at the subject line, til I saw the picture and had forgotten Lewis is sick. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

LaV, sorry to hear about your dad. I was on prednisone too, in 1994. I gained something like 50 lbs. in about 4 weeks. Was a bitch to lose, too. In fact, I'm still a little bit overweight from it.

Thank you for the kind words. That must have been tough on you, Aaron. I know it ate my fathers stomach up, and he also took Tagamet to help with that...I totally understand. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully it helped with whatever you were taking it for.
