"Coming Of Age In Mississippi"

Has anyone read this book? I'm reading it for my Engl. 1A composition course at college, and it is a page-turner for sure. Thoughts anyone?

I read it my first year of college, also. But that was 1985. I remember liking it, but I don't remember much about it.

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

I am just at the part where she is looking out at the crowd while they sing Swanee River, right before she's crowned homecoming queen. Talk about a gut punch.
