I found the Holy Grail this morning!

Had the best Tamales I have had in the longest ass time! touched There are a million places to buy them here in LA. You see ladies on the street selling their homemade tamales but usually they put a shred of a piece of meat in it and you're eating through the masa waiting for the center and it never comes confused You can usually get them at restaurants but they are usually mass produced and there is no love in them.

This morning I bought a couple from this lady that I've been seeing for a long time and O. M. G! They were full of meat and the second one was even overflowing with sauce. They were stellar clapping And they were only $1.25 each! biggrin

My family has always cooked Tamales during the holidays but now that my Tia Concha and My cousin Lisa have passed and my Gradnma Vicki is 85 and my Aunt Bell is diabetic and sick and my other cousin is living in Texas, there really isn't anyone to keep the tradition going. I guess I should pull grandma to the side and learn how to make them! lol

I LOVE tamales!!!! I am very lucky to have some awesome women here in Oklahoma that make them every Xmas so I can eat them Xmas eve and Xmas morning, something I have done since I was a child.

Abuellas put love in their food. When I had my friends over for Thanksgiving at my Mexican Grandma's house, they were passing out over how good her cooking was. God bless my grandma Hazel's soul but cooking was not her thing. British don't believe in spices, or at least not from her generation lol But my grandma Hazel is the one who gave me my creativity and she's the one tending to my garden mushy

Speaking of, I still haven't told you about my experience on the bus! boxed

You should definitely get your grandma to teach you how to make them. You will never regret it - both having the recipe and having that time with her.

I still remember the wonderful Sunday dinners my grandma made when I was little. She died when I was 5, so I never had a chance to cook with her - which I deeply regret. The closest I can come is using her dumpling recipe - which she wrote out for my mother. It's the only recipe of hers we have because she cooked out of her head - she didn't own any cookbooks.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yeah, this was a tradition for Christmas ever since I can remember. Not having them for some years now kind of depresses me. After my cousin died, one day I ordered lunch and looked down onto my plate and saw the spanish rice and instantly burst into tears. That was one thing she learned to do and she did it well. It was her thing during the holidays. I really miss Tamales though sad Now I know where to get them!!! woot!

Oh, had 2 tamales con chili verde y puerco. She also sells queso y rojo but was sold out when I bought mine. I'll have to try those next! biggrin Oh, also there is a bus driver that will stop and get off the bus to buy tamales from her. Now I know why! lol

Make sure we only talk food. I hate your politics! lol wink

My English grandma died when I was 25 and she moved away from California when I was 12. Only got to see her about 3 times in those thirteen years and I have massive regrets that I didn't get to have an adult relationship with her. Part of it is out of my control in that she died but I lost touch with her because of my personal dramas with my abusive ex.

I don't want to regret not having a relationship with my Mexican Grandma so I do spend time with her at Bingo and I call to see how she's doing. Grandma's are so special. Those of us who have loving and nice ones are lucky. I've known some evil grandmas in my time lol

Who's hysterical? lol

If your idea of "engaging" someone is to start with an insult, I'm simply not interested.

No, I don't hate your politics - for the simple reason that I really don't know them. Just as you really don't know mine.

And frankly, I don't know why a discussion of food has to veer off in that direction, anyway.
