my grandma read about a girl who got assaulted by someone from the internet. Like she really needed to know that now I don't hear the end of it! Like when my other grandma once saw a bear in the woods in 1920 and didn't like me going for a walk there

Like when my other grandma once saw a bear in the woods in 1920 and didn't like me going for a walk there That'd be one helluva bear! My mother has seen similar stories and she's certain the internet is a place of various nondescript horrors. When I ask her what sort of stuff can happen to me by frequenting a Prince fansite, eBay and theological databases, she gets angry. And my mother-in-law, a public school teacher who prides herself on being ultra hip, is not much different. She thinks even the smallest bit of information that I offer about myself will be used to steal my identity, empty out my bank accounts (which are already darned-near empty) or kidnap my daughter. My Mom calls me to tell me every time something happens to someone who met someone on the Internet. It's so annoying!
The 1st time I went to a Prince meetup, she kept leaving me voicemails. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Sounds like my parents, 'cept they're 78 and 83. And my dad figured out iTunes and gets all happy 'cause he can hear 30 seconds of all his favorite songs. Mind you, he refuses to *buy* any of them.

Nah. My mama wouldn't care but my dad'd probably think one of ya'll are gonna come to my house after I broadcast my adress for some reason and commit certain deeds. He almost knocked the shit out of me with a belt for being on a starwars forum when I was younger. (He couldn't prove it, I had closed the window and deleted the history) But now I can almost do w/e the hell I want.
Speaking of which, I think I might note my adress to Sirpsycho... [Edited 8/27/08 0:36am]
