Robert Downey Jr. Disses Dark Knight Robert Downey's words on Dark Knight:"My whole thing is that I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I feel like I'm dumb because I feel like I don't get how many things that are so smart. It's like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I'm like, 'That's not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.' I loved 'The Prestige' but didn't understand 'The Dark Knight'. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I'm like, 'I get it. This is so high brow and so [expletive] smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.' You know what? [Expletive] DC comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from."

It's Robert Downey Jr., so his opinion is automatically fact "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

It's called jealousy, Mr. Downey Jr. You only wish Iron Man had the same numbers.

How is it a diss? He's calling it supersmart, and that he didnt get it? thats not a diss, a diss would be "this shit fucking sucks" "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

I kinda see what Downey is getting at, I kinda agree with him. Yes, it was a supersmart movie, very well made with great actors . It was also too long and therefore sometimes too complicated for an adaptation of a comic-story.
Iron Man was a more straightforward comic-adaptation. I don't think Downey was dissing DK, just stating that the story and its drama was a bit too heavy for a comic-adaptation. BTW, I don't use drugs.....

It must be a really really slow Entertainment news week. This was first posted on the internet like three weeks ago. Now all of a sudden it's news. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

Oh, I don't think Downey is jealous of DK's success, Iron Man was a far above average hit.

maybe he's jealous, but he's allowed to not like it, right? I didn't like Forrest Gump or Schindler's List yeah, but you didn't write or direct Pulp Fiction! I truely don't think he's jealous. Downey's career is quite impressive when you look at it: from teenage heartthrob to drugjunkie and now he's hot again in Hollywood with on of this summer's top 5 movies..... Yes, he's got the right not to like it. I am sure there are a lot of people who don't like DK, especially maybe the Tim Burton die-hards. Come to think of it, I really would like to know what Burton thinks of the route Chris Nolan has taken the franchise that is Batman.....has he spoken about it??

he's just being snarky because it was a competing superhero movie based on a character from a competing comics publisher. if anything, i see his comment as a backhanded compliment.

Thanks for your opinions. I personally liked Iron Man better than Dark Knight and I can't wait to see Iron Man 2. There are rumors of An Avengers movie featuring Iron Man so I hope Downey reprises Iron Man for that.

He also made a cameo in 'The Incredible Hulk' which hinted at the Avengers. According to IMBD, there'll be films on Thor, Captain America, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, followed by The Avengers(in 2011 I think).

What a dumbass.
Seriously, how does anyone not understand this movie? Yes, it's higher-quality fare than your average superhero flick, but to hear some people talk you'd think it was some kind of crazy puzzle only Mensa members could understand. I've heard a few people now say they couldn't follow the plot. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

BTW, I don't use drugs..... I also don't understand people saying this. Have you read any Batman comics lately? How about The Killing Joke, or Arkham Asylum, the source material for the film? They weren't exactly light, fluffy, and straightforward. I'm not sure people who are calling TDK too dark know much of the Caped Crusader beyond Adam West. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Uhh...was Batman really THAT complex? It's not Twin Peaks or Matrix...it was pretty straight forward to me.
Or maybe I'm just a genius...

Or maybe I'm just a genius... For a superhero movie it was complex, but that still doesn't make it all that complicated. I truly do not understand people who didn't "get" this movie or couldn't follow the plot. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
