Icenine, you have to stop making so many assumptions about things you don't understand. Being uneducated isn't a sign of unintelligence and that's what you have to understand. Lastly, if you're truly concerned about literacy and education, why aren't assisting these parents you've witnessed in developing their "language" skills or helping students with reading. The one thing I do hate is people critizing a situation but do nothing to assist to resolve it.

I hate that women have so many mental health and relationship issues. I hate that women are dying of so many diseases when they don't have to die. So, I run a program to address these issues.

You've identified a problem in your opinion. What are you going to do to resolve it?

peace

I didn't assume that they were stupid, I assumed that they were uneducated. There is a difference between being stupid and being uneducated.

The problem here is that you are trying to equate a person's education with their use of language, and one really has very little to do with the other. Like many others here, I am a black person who has lived in the South my entire life. I frequently change my "dialect" to reflect the situation that I am in. When I am around family/friends or in a casual situation, I CHOOSE NOT to speak properly. It is not a sign of a lack of intelligence, but rather a sign of convenience.

So, my answer to your question would be no. I think it makes children who master standard english and their parents' dialect(s) more skillfull.
