My great grand mother Thompson made that baptism grown by hand for my great uncle Michael's baptism in 1919. All 8 of her children, all 26 of her grandchildren, 84 of her great grandchildren, myself included, and 15 of the great great grand children wore it to be baptised in. In the mid 90s it was decided it was to delicate and too hard to clean to be used again, and got framed. My grandmother had it and now my aunt Sheila will have it. This is also the last photo I took in my grandma's house sorry it's so blurry it was with my camera phone and i think i may have been crying as I snapped it. That's my sister-in-law Christie in the bottom right corner. The two photos are of the family farm that my great grandfather bulit in the 1900s. My mom's cousin Raymond just turned the farm over to his son Timmy who's about a year older than me this past spring.

I have my grandmother's bible. Even though I don't worship gods, I still like to keep it because I know how much her faith meant to her. And she would store different things inside of the pages, like newspaper clippings, people's obituaries, wedding invitations, pictures of family members. She had underlined different passages too. I feel honored to have such a personal item of hers.

I have some of my great-grandfather's cufflinks. He was an awesome man who had a big impact on me. I "retired" them a while back. I guess I'll wear them on special days, like wedding day, childs' graduations, etc.

My mother has a bible or two from her parents that I intend to take when she wants to give them up.

The only thing currently in my possession that I may try to keep and pass down is the wooden door to a basement storeroom from the house where I grew up. My mother sold the family house last summer, and I wanted some physical remnant of it. The storeroom is where my parents always "hid" the Christmas presents. shhhgiggle I've reappropriated its door for use as a coffee table top.

My grandmother just gave me a pencil sketch of my great-great grandmother (my grandma's grandma). I've been admiring it for years.

I also have the wedding certificate of my father's parents - as well as photographs of them as a young couple.

And my mother recently gave me a dress that my three sisters and I all wore in portraits taken when we were 18 months old.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
