The big news around here is that Michael Phelps did not agree to appear on the cover of Wheaties cereal boxes, but rather on the cover of Kellogs Corn Flakes and FROSTED FLAKES cereals.



For those of you that aren't familiar with Frosted Flakes, it's just about the worst type of cereal to give your kids. It's loaded with sugar and has very little fiber.

So why did Phelps make this choice? MONEY of course.

My wife and her sister just had a lively argument over this...we (the wife & I) believe that it's irresponsible. Her sister thinks that he should get as much money from his medals, regardless WHO is paying him.

What are YOUR thoughts on the matter?

...and does anyone know how much he's getting paid?

Maybe he doesnt eat Wheaties.

aren't there worse cereals out there than Frosted Flakes?

I mean Count Chocula or any of those marshmallow cereals seem far worse.

Corn flakes are fantastic and name a child that eats wheaties and or even knows what they are... in fact,compare the single serving stats for these various products...youre in for a surprise!

But irregardless of WHAT he eats (he's admittedly a junk food lover but also needs to consume outrageous amounts of calories to feed his overworked body) don't you think that he has a responsibility to portray a healthy lifestyle?

HE may not be overweight (yet) but millions of kids in this country are clinically obese.

...right now I'm pretty much living paycheck-to-paycheck.
I took the kids to an amusement park last weekend, and now I have to decide what bills are going to be paid late.

If tomorrow my daughter's picture was chosen by the McCain campaign to be featured in an ad for the Republican party...and I'm sure there's be a nice paycheck involved...I would say NO. I'd rather keep struggling day-to-day than pimp her image to an organization that I do not believe in.

Is Phelps pimping himself? I think so.

you know honestly, as far as the obesity problem, that's the parents fault, not the athlete... parents should teach their kids about right nutrition... and this way when they get older, they'll have balanced out right eatting habits.. parents eat wrong and give their kids everything they want, so the kids eat wrong too ... i know kids who love fruit and vegetables and will eat healthy foods.. and it's cause their parents instilled that in them..

I don´t like Wheaties and I guess neither does he. That being said , if I were in his situation, I´d either endorse Kellogg´s Smacks or Koelln´s real oats müsli...or both.

Ok, agreed but you ignored the important point. Have you compared the servings contents on the side of the box? I have and what I found is less then 10% variance per cereal thus one has visible sugar/carbs/calories and the other hidden!

Bottom line, cereal in and of itself is crap! You'd be better to serve oatmeal or such. ( 1 egg on top of a piece of multigrain bread like Ezekiel bread is the perfect blend of protein/ fat / carbs.)

Ummmmm. . . why does he have a responsibility to portray a healthy lifestyle to the public??? Michael Phelps' only responsibility is to do what's in his best interest to market his brand. He's not you or your children's legal guardian and doesn't owe anyone an explanation of his business decisions. If you're basing your dietary decisions based on a marketing ad or a spokesperson's endorsement, honey, you got bigger issues. Do you really think that him appearing on a Wheaties box, or a Frosted Flakes for that matter, is going to make a single kid stop stuffing their face???
