it's a big FUCK YOU in the face of actors, producers, directors...pretty much all of hollywood.

the Simple Jack thing was making fun of actors who protray the mentally challenged for acclaim (Tom Hanks, Cuba Gooding Jr, Sean Penn)

All the main characters were making fun of various actors:

Ben Stiller's character was a parody of action stars who are losing their steam.

RDJ's character was a parody of actors who get WAY caught into their character. (Russel Crowe for example)

Jack Black's character was a parody of comedians known for their gross out humor. (eddie murphy)

and Brandon's character was a parody of rap stars becoming actors.

there's really nothing offensive about this movie at all.

I'd probably find it funny!

oh...apparently I'd find it funny because it makes fun of hollywood. neutral
just sayin'
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

Keanu Reeves has had great success, too. Did you think Leo was great in Titanic? Or was he just good enough?

I loved Titanic when it first came out, but looking back the whole thing is just dumb. Leo's okay in it, but the material's not that good to start with.

That's exactly how I feel about Titanic. When I saw it, I was in a relationship and sentimental crap like that had a lot more appeal then. I could never stand to watch the movie now.

Slave2daGroove

I saw it last night and all I can say (even if this style of humor is your bag) is wait for video.

I'm a fan of this style of comedy generally but this was just trying to hard and too often. It had a couple LOL moments but overall... bored

This movie is being offense just to be offensive and it isn't really funny. Being funny while being slightly offensive has been the working formula for Ben Stiller movies.

God, what a silly movie. razz

i think it was a pretty dumb movie, but i brought it up because it certainly gave him a huge boost in terms of leading star appeal in mega-schlockbuster flicks. he already had the "quirky brilliant character actor" appeal. i don't think he was terribly interested in that image...

When I first saw a preview for "Tropic Thunder," I thought I liked this movie when it was called "Three Amigos." To tell the truth, I was actually interested in seeing it when I thought it was a comedy, but since then I've read several articles that have touted it as an action flick.

One question - I've heard that the faux trailers at the beginning of the movie are hilarious, though none of the reviews I've read will go into detail. Anybody care to spill the beans??

There is a Ben Stiller trailer for a movie that is the end of the world and it's subsequent six or seven sequels. Then Jack Black's trailer is a parody of the the Eddie Murphy characters The Clumps and then Robert Downey Jr and Toby McQuire as gay monks, this was fucking hysterical. lol

yeah it's a good movie like terminator 2 is a good movie.

Obviously Leo has some cred as an actor, he's okay and does decent (very successful) movies, but I think for a long time people remembered that he was so great in Gilbert Grape & overlooked that he's only been movie-star good since then, not amazing performance good.

But that's just my opinion of course. Martin Scorsese seems to like him. But that makes me wonder if he's lost it smile

Who? Scorsese or DiCrapio?? Scorsese is trying to do with Leo what he has done with DeNiro or Harvey Keitel a long time ago. I doubt that it will work as nowadays the climate in Hollywood has changed, with its mass output of movies and the gazillion stars that are walking around.....

I mean Scorsese. Leo is a huge step down from DeNiro IMO.
