Is there anything you're good at doing that you hate doing? Okay, hate might be too strong a word... but is there anything that other people say you're really GOOD at that you don't like doing, or at least you stress out about doing everytime until you're actually doing it? And... is this something that you generally try to avoid doing or do you do it anyway? Why or why not? Thanks for your replies~!

and yes, it's definitely hate! I call my paying job "my second job" that way it doesn't get me down -- it's just the one that pays so I can do the other things that I really enjoy.

I have a client I do writing for...and all the stuff they need has to have that horribly gross "uplifting" copy (of the ilk you see in those inspirational posters hanging in the offices of human resources managers). Apparently, I'm good at it, because they call me a lot, but it makes me want to throw up.

yeah, i have to psyche myself into it, too. i just don't think people were made by whatever we were made by just to go to work. bleh. i hate that it's a necessity. working at making what I love be my work. i hate that! http://elmadartista.tumblr.com/ http://twitter.com/madartista

I'm the unoffical IT guy for everyone my parents know. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

I kick ass at baking, but I HATE it when people ask me to bake things for them, even if they pay me.
Someone asks me about 4 times a year to bake a 5-flavor cake for functions she goes to. That thing is a PAIN IN THE ASS to make. Dense and heavy and sometimes falls apart when inverting it because of the weight of it. Plus it's very expensive. The $20 she gives me really only covers ingredients, not my sheer aggravation that comes with making it.

Everything I'm good at, I like doing. That's why I'm good at it. Whataver I don't like doing, I just don't, or do it badly.

Nice to know I'm not the only crazy one who doesn't enjoy doing things I'm good at.
For me, I'm really good with techy-kinda of stuff: trouble-shooting computers, fixing up websites, figuring out why a TV or DVD-player won't power up, etc. I cringe when I get called to help with any of this -- people are really appreciative for my help which is nice, but I don't find it fun... it's often time-consuming and flustering. The worst of the worst is when someone I don't even know walks up to me and says, "I heard you're good at computers..." I almost immediately want to say, "No!" I guess doctors have the same curse. If a friend wants to make me dinner, then yeah, I'll hang out with them and take a look into their issue, but otherwise, "I know nothing." haha The other thing I'm supposedly really good at (because people tell me so) but I really don't enjoy doing is public entertainment. I try not to think about it until it happens otherwise I stress out about it and overthink it. The toughest part is not knowing how the audience will react -- it's different almost every time and can really mess with my confidence and the whole vibe of the performance... especially if the previous one didn't go well (there's that fear it'll happen again). When it's good, it's really good and I love it when I'm in that "moment" and when I can see the crowd getting off on it, but besides that, I probably wouldn't do it at all and often wonder if it's worth the stress leading up to that "high". I guess that's the point -- there's usually something that makes you keep doing what you don't like doing -- whether it's money, making people smile, getting a personal high from it, or whatever.

My least favorite request, "Hey, can you 'wordsmith' this for me?" I'm very good at re-writes, but I hate doing them. Frankly, it's easier to just write it from scratch. (The results are usually better, too.)
I'm also very good at cleaning...but I detest it. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Dance.
I LOVE dancing. Just however I feel like.. And it's not that I hate doing it. But I don't like doing it around my family. They make this HUGE deal about it because I'm the baby, and I don't dance like a baby anymore. And it's just. Annoying. And it prevents me from getting into it. Distracting. No me gusta. Being on a stage is my most favoritest thing in the whole, wide world. I'm doing two plays this fall (rehearsals starting just after Labor Day with the last performance just before Christmas) and I cannot wait. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
