Believe me, I'm not one for a man hitting a woman, but in that scene, she was repeatedly hitting him. I know it's only a movie, but no one should put their hands on another person without suffering the consequences. She was doing those stupid little girly swats, and gets a full blown hit back in return, then dude forcibly picks her up and carries her to the room and undresses her against her will. Not even on the same level. Anyways, it wasn't just that scene. The whole movie treated women like shit. It gave a very lighthanded approach to the whole matter, and I didn't care for it. Why should I, a female, sit through 2 hours of watching men treat women like dirt, and be expected to come away from the experience enjoying it? The movie was garbage. The hit in return was unevenly matched, I agree.....but still, one should never put their hands on another person. You don't know what that other person is capable of. Tyrese was ducking and flinching, indicating that he didn't being slapped. I can't believe I'm talking about Baby Boy. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

Baby Boy made me uncomfortable as well. Although I quite liked the mother in the movie and her kick ass garden, everyone else rubbed me the wrong way. i especially didn't like how the girl went back to Tyrese's character and then in the end they show that she's pregnant and engaged to that jerk. As if that's really going to change anything. I found that movie to be downright depressing. It happens way too much in real life. btw, I hated Snoop's character. His hair looked good though. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

The whole movie didn't sit right with me though. I doubt changing that scene would do a lot to improve my picture of it. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Yep...Velvet Goldmine..I've always loved that genre of music..Glam/Glitter and I love the artists i.e. Bowie, Bolan, Iggy, The Sweet, Slade, New York Dolls, etc...But I couldn't get with how the storyline was developed and how the actors were portraying some of these artists that I mentioned above. So maybe about halfway through the film, I bailed. I LOVE Toni Collette...great actress. The rest of the cast was good as well. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. I remember watching Blue Velvet for the first time & being so blown away that I stayed in the theater after it was over & watched it a second time . It was one of those hole-in-the-walls, that the employees never really checked who was going in & out .I was so gung ho over it, that I dragged by friend the next day to the theater to see it again . Unfornately.the movie had the opposite effect on him, he was so creeped out, he walked out in the middle of it

But I've been at movies that others have walked out on. Two that come to mind are: In the Bedroom and Shadow of the Vampire. I enjoyed them both. Both those movies were excellent. Why would someone walk out on them? Because they are morons.

The storyline's development was deliberately done like that. Along with a whole slew of other source material (glam, Oscar Wilde, etc.) the plotting was done to be reminiscent of Citizen Kane, what with the movie beginning at the end, then explaining itself backward from there. Yeah, I was hip to that. I dig O.W. and the Citizen Kane film. Perhaps I shouldn't have stated about the developement of the storyline or it's structure. That's not why I walked out. It's the latter part of my intial statement that rings true. How the actors were portraying the artists that I mentioned. I felt it was heavy handed. To me, the scenerios i.e. rumors that were linked with the real life artists seemed twisted around to fit into the tale the director wanted to tell. I'm hip to that as well but I couldn't get with THAT element of the film. So I bounced. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

In terms of accurate portrayal it's pretty bad, but that's not the point of the flick so I don't let it worry me too much. Also, I think the only reason Bowie dislikes the movie so much is because it's not exactly a flattering portrayal. Makes ol' Mr. Stardust look like a dick. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
