Spiders give me the creeps. Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

Not in a million years, the idea of an over-sized spider, creeps me out!

This Louise Bourgeois sculpture, Couple, is at the Guggenheim right now. Spiders are a reoccuring motif in her oeuvre, which has spanned 70 years. This sculpture is only about 8 feet high, which is relatively small compared to her other spider sculptures. The one at the Tate Modern is 35 feet high: I give tours at the Gugg and it is fascinating to hear people's impressions and associations of spiders when we look at the Couple sculpture...and that's before I tell them the spider is a metaphor for her mother. I think it is bad luck to kill spiders, I like that they eat other insects, so they don't bother me too much; but I mean little ones like daddy longlegs or house spiders. I don't think I'd be so relaxed if there was a tarantula kickin' it in my apartment.

Although sadly very few of these hatchlings survive. But hopefully he/she is among them and will one day return to that very beach to lay her eggs there (if it is a she that is ). He actually was the one who put the hatchling in my hand and I was so surprised I almost dropped it when it started to move . I would have never done that on my own as I thought you are not allowed to do that. But he explained to me that it is okay as the salt water washes away the human smell immediately. And I agree, he is hot, even more when you meet him in person . He is a very charming and charismatic man and we became close friends while I was there and I learned a lot from him about his country. With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....
