Not in a million years, the idea of an over-sized spider, creeps me out!

This Louise Bourgeois sculpture, Couple, is at the Guggenheim right now. Spiders are a reoccuring motif in her oeuvre, which has spanned 70 years. This sculpture is only about 8 feet high, which is relatively small compared to her other spider sculptures. The one at the Tate Modern is 35 feet high:
I give tours at the Gugg and it is fascinating to hear people's impressions and associations of spiders when we look at the Couple sculpture...and that's before I tell them the spider is a metaphor for her mother. I think it is bad luck to kill spiders, I like that they eat other insects, so they don't bother me too much; but I mean little ones like daddy longlegs or house spiders. I don't think I'd be so relaxed if there was a tarantula kickin' it in my apartment.
