My iPod broke

It was working fine yesterday, and now all I get is a sad iPod picture.
I went to the support site, and did everything they suggested on there, and the
damn thing is still not working. Ugh!! and if I send it to them to repair it they will charge me $200!! I can get a new one for that! nuts

how old is it?

if it's under a year you should be able to take it to the genius bar and they'll repair/replace it for free (well you know lol )

and to all the ipod owners, i highly recommend the extended warranty, i know it's painful to drop another $60 but it's well worth it if anything goes wrong with your ipod. they'll give you a brand spanking new one (or refurbished lol )

sandisk sansa or insignia.

oh. and i hope you've backed up all of your files, 'cuz i don lost my library like 3 times already. some of the stuff i download from itunes just vanished and they don't give free re-downloads. suggestion to anyone downloading, Rhapsody lets you re-download stuff for free.

i've started backing up my iPod files on my hard drive, which i keep mainly for mp3s anyway. most of the music on my iPod is from my CD collection, so it wouldn't be too much of a tragedy if i had to do it all over...it's just the work involved. dead

if you get the 3-year customer care plan, which is $169, you'll be set for three times as long. But if you have your iTunes library backed up somewhere, once you get the new one, all you have to do is import the tunes from the library (I learned this when I had to reinstall my hard drive.)

have you tried resetting it and then when it is restarting giving it a smack to the side?

it could be the hard disk is stuck.

when you put the ipod to your ear, you can hear it.

this is a genuine tip which works, i learned it from a guy at a Mac repair shop.
yes SIR!

Yeah, generally the sad ipod pic means R.I.P unfortunately.

What sort of ipod is it?

I have a video nano atm and it's great!

Mine is a iPod 20GB classic. I have had it for probably for 3 years now,and currently I have 1011 songs on it. I have most of them backed up,but most of them are out of my cd collection so I'm not to worried about it. It would'nt shut off so now it is dead, after I charge it I will see it smacking it on the side works. I really hope it can be saved, but if not I am going to get a 80GB one. I thought of getting a nano, but they only hold 2,000 songs. confused

Three years is about average for an iPod...from what I've been told. I had just sold my last one (a U2 from 2004) to a friend when it died in December 2006. I've had my current one since December 2006. I'm hoping they make 'em with a longer life expectancy now... pray

I saved about half of my ipod as the converted files. I'm saving the other half as we speak nod

My first one tore up. I even tried damn near beating it to death. lol It's still a paperweight now. I feel like prying it apart just to look at the inside. I have no use for it. I did hear where you can send broken iPods in for money.....but the postage isn't even worth sending it back. I've waited too long now.....and I think the value's gone down.

Apple has it where they will send you a pre-paid mailer or you can print out a shipping label, and recycle it through them, but I don't know if they give you money or not.
