How do YOU say.... Realizing ofcourse this thread would be much better with audio...bare with me people..
I have been speaking to this lovely young lady who happened to say a familiar word to me that stopped the conversation cold....the word she was "trying to say is ALUMINUM...but her pronounciation was (phonetically) alumInium..... she claims this is the CORRECT way to say the word which ofcourse is absurd... How do you say it?

It isn't the load that breaks us down, it's the way we carry it.

Britannica said: Crude aluminum was isolated (1825) by Hans Christian Ørsted by reducing aluminum chloride with potassium amalgam. Sir Humphry Davy had prepared (1809) an iron-aluminum alloy by electrolyzing fused alumina (aluminum oxide) and had already named the element aluminum; the word later was modified to aluminium in England and some other European countries.
Brits say it right and you are wrong, even though the facts say otherwise. We're always right.
