I just got done reading this book about Deadly Emotions and how everything we stuff and worry about can be toxic to the body/mind

I believe that. I'm reprogramming my mind right now as we speak. I believe that we really do transform ourselves through positive thinking.

Tomorrow morning, I plan to wake up with a 12 inch penis.

I can tell you the news of a Nightmare on Elm Street Remake made me mad. I'm like...I'm not THAT old. Can't they pick something from before I was born or something?

The only things I "worry" about of course is my health and getting cancer from smoking. Well my health in general as I haven't had a check up in forever. Wondering if my partner for life is indeed that. And how I am going to go out of this world. I still think it's going to involve a car somehow.

That's as long term as I get. I am not worried about retiremnet (I have savings and 401 K and a good job), taking care of my folks (both are dead). The rest I let others worry about.

the biggest mindfuck of aging (for me anyway) is trying to figure out if certain changes in my world view are coming about because i'm getting older and more fogey-like, or if i'm just changing like i've always been changing throughout my entire life and i'd probably feel the same at 17 years old about something as i would now.

it's a little easier to look at grey hair or notice a new creak in the bones and realize it's because i'm becoming an anxosaurus, but it's not so easy for me to figure out if the things that are popular today are crap because i'm getting old and out of touch with modernity, or if today's crap is just the same as crap from any other year.

Exactly. I think it's a little of both. When we grew up there was no Tila Tequila to be disgusted by. But there was Full House and that would suck no less today than it did then.

right. i mean, i don't get miley cyrus, but when i was a teenager i didn't get tiffany or debbie gibson either. it's just the same stale twinkie in a different wrapper.

though sometimes i think about how there's not a lot of alternative/indie stuff i'm that crazy about these days, and i wonder if it's because i'm getting out of touch or if it's because a lot of stuff out there really *IS* that bland and derivative? i mean, hell, i have no problem if it's just that i'm a music snob. i've carried that weight all my life. lol but i hear some people my age saying "i don't like anything new anymore, it's all crap" and i cringe. it makes me think that i'm going to be listening to johnny mathis records on the hi-fi and cursing about devil music by the time i turn 40. oh my god. boxed

As for the worries of the world, that kinda stuff plagued me when I was younger. I mean, I would worry a LOT. And so gosh darned passionately. I thought growing more apathetic made me older. lol

As for the smoking, I have a quit date set again for Monday. I know, I know. But I don't want to hear a word about it from anyone.

Honestly, I really believe that. I worked with this woman who had come back from having cancer and it was in remission. She took a job in my group where she was the head of this really hard and difficult (not to mention stressful) project that our company put MILLIONS into and it had so mony issues in trying to get it to be finished (4 years and it's still not rolled out) as well as managing the higher ups expectation as to when it will finally come out.

She ended up getting cancer again and has recently passed away. I am pretty convinced that the job killed her with the constant stress.

I reassure myself by remembering that I preferred the popular music of the 90's to that of the 80's (my teen years) & 00's. That means, for better or worse, that music may actually be worse now than it was (in my opinion at least). I also would never be so closed minded to think that there's "nothing good nowadays, especially that rap music!"

i have a lot of patience for crappy pop music of the 70s, and i think it's because i was a little kid in the 70s and stuff like rita coolidge and steve miller band reminds me of my parents and my childhood and all those memories we all hold and cherish throughout the rest of our lives.

it just blows my mind sometimes that there are people who could say the same thing about NSYNC or Creed: "oh, 'arms wide open' reminds me of my 5th birthday!" touched

disbelief lol

rolleyesI am so sure that somewhere is your collection of Tiffany Memorabilia!biggrin

I get what you are saying about music. My take is that we still have taste and we know what we like and what sounds good. We may not have our ear to the ground for the really new shiny music, but it comes our way eventually. I think that over the years one gets used to the cycles of music and decvelops a palate for such things. And YES music is THAT bland or some of it is. A lot isn't. I can still pick up MC Solaar and he still sounds as fresh as an Imago Avie. There's just more avenues for music these days. Trust me you're not slipping, you still write about new music here.
