I really want that here nod

Though we just have 2 more yrs left with Jess now so ...

I actually like year-round school a lot better, except that our oldest goes to a school with a traditional schedule and trying to plan family vacations suck.

They were off for about a month from mid June to mid July, then they get three weeks off at the end of September beginning of October, they get an extra week for winter break and two extra weeks for spring break.

i like that idea, ours schools are usually off all july & august with a week or so in oct & easter.
it really ties us down for holidays. plus the price shoots up because everyone is trying to get away as well.

We would like the breaks falling at different seasonal vacation times as well

Summer vacations are nice yes nod But we would enjoy different choices biggrin

nod Plus you can travel at non-peak tourist times which is nice.

That is very nice ( for us ) we tend to steer as clear from those types of times/areas as possible

Year-round schools really open up all kinds of possibilities for travel.

Plus I think it is better for the kids academically. First they don't have this big three month chunk off from school and then have to spend the whole first month back adjusting and getting back into the swing of things. And with their time off spread out more evenly during the school year, I think it keeps them fresher and more focused.

it doen't suit a lot of working parents to have the long breaks either. can be hard enough to keep the kids occupied as well.

I personally feel that if you as parents are very involved in your childs education....any public school will be the "right" school.

That's what REALLY blew my mind this is a public school, it's free, and we've gone to the meetings. The Teacher's seemed capable, it was nice and clean etc. But my family, our neighbors and friends all said "Oh you can't send your kids there..."

Wow! My girls do not go back until September 15th! They all attend a private school here in town that is going through a major building renovation (earthquake country) and they have postponed the first day of school, by 2 weeks. They will eventually catch up, with fewer holidays, and getting out a few days later in the summer. We have one more month to go! My girls will be in: 10th grade, 5th grade, and a new kindergartner..

Oh yeah she's going... the funniest thing is is she told us not to worry the other day...

She says, "Mommy, Daddy, I like that school it'll be okay, I can play there!"

Ya, I don't think Ontario would do such a thing. lol

They might want to push kids ahead a year...but there is no way in hell that I would ever allow that to happen.

They wanted to move both ours from K to 1st - we declined

We have a great "gifted" / honours program here - Jess is in 11th grade and most of her classes are college level and many are credited towards college nod JT had many of his basic college credi classes covered as well prior to High School Graduation

I accepted with my daughter and declined with my son.I feel both were good choices. My daughter starts college at 17. My son is a strong student.
