How do you book your holiday?

I mean which websites do you use? Which are the best? I use http://www.expedia.co.uk and

http://www.lastminute.com...inute%5D&x

Are there any others you would suggest?

You will love the Maldives and Sri Lanka. nod There is a lot to see in Sri Lanka if you want to get out and see the country. It is very third world though so be prepared.
I vowed never to recommend the company we used, now I cannot think of who they were.
Their prices were not bad and they did seem very organized in some areas.

i use travelocity and/or priceline for my airline tickets. i also heard expedia works pretty well too.

mostly i arrange my own travel, rather than using an agency. i like to have options and free time for spontaneous activites, so tour groups don't work well for me confused

if it were me planning your trip i'd say stay away from sri lanka, malaysia and mauritus, opting instead for the maldives. i'd arrange for a cabin/room and avail myself of all information regarding local travel options, such as bus, train, taxi, golf cart, etc. maybe charter a boat (being careful of pirates, natch) or a small car.

hope you have fun!

Any reason? a friend went to Malaysia and loved it. We could commandeer a small boat dressed as pirates, thats a fantastic idea!

Imago

http://www.farecompare.com

It shows you the best times of the year and best days of the month to book.
I think it pulls from the same companies Priceline and Orbitz does, but I'm not sure.

For hotels, I'll use Orbitz or sometimes hotels.com which can save me A WHOLE HELL OF ALOT.

I also found out today, good tip: Choose your flights and ring the hotel personally to negotiate a good rate. If they have empty rooms they would rather fill them for less money than leave them empty. Then book both things.

well, i guess i chose the maldives for you because sri lanka has the tamil rebels who attack tourist sites; mauritania is in northern africa which is (reputedly) a hotbed for al quada; and malaysia is lovely but quite near indonesia which is politically quite unsettled in an al quada kind of way

besides, the maldives is much prettier. and i think a little chain of islands would suit the two of you quite nicely. giggle and i say all this without actually having met either of you two lol free advice, baby. free! biggrin

* yeah the maldives are muslim too. shrug still, better the chain of islands thingy.

I uses expedia and kayak.com a lot.

I also tried hotwire.com for the first time, and the savings are incredible! If you're on a budget, they allow you to pick the area of a city you want to stay in but you don't know the actual hotel until after you've booked. I used it for a really cheap car rental as well, again, you don't know the company till after you've booked but you are definitely getting below and sometimes well below the price than if you booked through the company or other sites (like expedia) as well.

If I know I want a certain hotel, I've found the best deals tend to come from actually calling the hotel and speaking to someone personally. When I booked our stay at the Chelsea in New York for example, online it was listed as booked for the weekend but when I called I got a room and it was around $100 cheaper than what I could find online.

I appreciate your concern biggrin There doesnt seem to be many places left in the world that dont have one issue or another, including my own very country and yours too for that matter. However, I will be going with a very resourceful person so not too worried about any untoward shenaningans ( although would stay out of obvious trouble spots) !

www.opodo.co.uk is goood for flights sometimes. It's owned by a group of major airlines so it's legit.
