I'm with you on this one. I'm a teacher of young kids, and nothing grits me more than the 'kiddy voice'. It stunts language development, and does not provide a healthy conversational model. I teach special education, and often times folks who teach kids with challenges tend to really amp up the babytalk.
I find that using a normal tone of voice and simplifying the language so that it is developmentally appropriate is the most useful for little ones.

Just my opinion.

A friend of mine speaks pigeon English on the phone and outside of class to his Thai English students (young and old) and it makes me cringe.
