yeah, i've tried a bunch of anti-virus stuff, and the spyware blocks it from entering my computer. What I'm looking for is a way to completely reset my computer.

yep, it did the same thing as above, spyware rejected the file and won't let me run it.

a) backup your documents /personal data. Make sure to patch all your applications before opening them again though.
b) pop in your XP/Vista CD or your manufacturer recovery CD's
c) boot the PC
d) follow the installation process
e) if working with the XP/Vista CD delete all partitions and create a new one.

Make sure you also have the installation CDs of your critical applications and peripherals.

https://psi.secunia.com/
this tool will tell you whether certain applications have updates available.

use sandboxie to surf in if you're not sure about the website content

download a file if you're gonna watch it. run it through www.virustotal.com and check the feedback. Then watch it if it's safe.

Cumbersome, I know, but nowadays it's close to mandatory to stay safe :-s

I'll try to help you.

First, delete all your temporary files.

You might need to entry your registry, and research unfamiliar programs. Is there any way you can run a search on your computer? There are articles regarding how to access your registry. Then you look through the programs, and run a search on each suspect program or each one of them, to be on the safe side.

Once you find the bad program, then you can delete it from your registry, but you MUST find the proper procedure first.

Of course, you can also contact your computer help desk? I have done that in the past to be on the safe side.

Here is an article that might help you:pcworld.about.com/magazine/2209p170id117011.htm

Here is another:

www.computerhope.com/issu...000931.htm

A few years ago, I deleted the a virus file from my registry, but I had to do a lot of research first! Then I still contacted the dellsupport, to make sure everything was clean. I had to pay $100.00 for three days of tutorials, I think? I was worth it, though.

Time for a backup of important files and then a reformat and reinstall of the OS.

At least that's what I'd do. confused

In what way? Is it just the slight problem that it's easier to hack a joomla site than it is to lick a stamp? Are we talking spyware or other malicious pwnage here ?

There are various joomla designed sites that I have no choice but to visit, although I haven't encountered pwnage of any sort on any of them yet. Perhaps I should start using sandbox. hmmm

geek
a major bug was detected in Joomla that will generate pwnage recently and apparently admins are slacking and failing to update. They're currently reported to be used for several attacks, including spyware and spam attacks (where they host the content that the link in the spam mail leads to).
There is an update for Joomla.

(Drupal is found to be vulnerable, and an update is available. I use Drupal for my blog, but noone else is allowed to post there and comments are moderated so it all depends on which features are allowed there. I'm upgrading tonight though).
