Our First Tennis Tournament We're in beautiful downtown College Station, Texas for my son's first ZAT tennis tournament. I am a horrible tennis dad, as I don't know what "ZAT" means other than it has something to do with rankings.
Anyway, my son decided to try out for the high school tennis team. Our high school was ranked ninth in Texas last year, so it's pretty competitive. My son hasn't played much tennis since not making the 7th grade team two years ago. He didn't realize that it was all about whether you won your tryout match or not. He had the other boy beat, so the other boy started cheating and ended up winning. So this summer, we hired a tennis pro to give him summer-long personal instruction. I told the dude I'd pay him a bonus if my son made the team. We played a local tournament last weekend. Went 0 - 2, but he should have won the second set. He had the other boy down 4 - 2 but lost his focus. But this is the big-time (I hope!). There are about 80 boys in his division (Boys 14). So here we go! | |
