I love my grandpop,I swear I do...but if he tries to make me wash one more plastic container from the chinese store Im snappin
Everytime I wash the dishes its some old raggedy plastic "something" in there.
Even this morning...I look in the sink and he put one of those cheap red cups in there...one time I found a ripped plastic plate.
Why must they save everything?!?!

Oh Lawd. I think it's generational, like they grew up without much so believe in saving stuf, just in case.

Well the old ladies were I live hate to throw out plastic cause "it'll never rot and stay in the ground forever" so they treat plastic like fine china.

Most of these folks were poor - and even if they weren't, they lived through rationing and want. I remember my grandma saving string, rubber bands, foil, brown paper. They reused everything they could - because they didn't know if they'd be able to get (or if they could get - afford) more.

My own mom (born in 1936) lived in a house without indoor plumbing 'til she was 10 (and the war was over). She got her first bicycle (which she shared with her siblings) around the same time. And her family wasn't the poorest in town by any stretch.

You try to tell kids today this and do they believe you?

Old folks tend to be happier then the rest of us. They understand that it could always be worse.

My grandmother was a pack-rat also. Sometime, you just have to throw it away without them looking. 9 times out of 10, he won't remember anyway.

my grandma is like that too she used to save styrofaom cups even. They have a point to that they were raised to save things to use over and over again. When g-ma moved to her new home(since they,the city bought her old home and tore it down for city use), she had to throw away things like that in boxes. There judt wasnt room. Plesure, I know you must feel frustrated with that but please he was just following his ways that he was tuaght growing up. As WE are taught certain things growing up.

My dad is really bad at saving everything he can get his hands on. He's 69 and loves plastic food containers. He buys them like I used to buy cigarettes. I told him the last thing we need is more plastic containers and he just buys more.
