From the thinkingchristians url: "religious beliefs tend to be more illogical or incoherent than secular beliefs, and intelligent people tend to recognize that more quickly. But this explanation will surely be rejected by religious people, who will seek other explanations and rationalizations.

A possible counter-argument is that intelligent people tend to be more successful than others. The lure of worldly success and materialism draws many of these intellectually gifted individuals away from God. After all, who needs God when you (apparently) are making it on your own?"

Using a weak counter-arguement to strengthen your slanted assertions = ineffectual writing.

A logical person would argue that an institutionalized system grounded in a belief of something greater than oneself is attractive to the philisophical human; that the crux of religion is a (sometimes nebulous) template for attaining a state of knowledge and "being". The moral relativism, doctrine, or dogma based in something other than logic, is ancillary.

Oh yeah, and how many times throughout the brief history of Christianity, have highly intellectual (albeit insane) men in theory and in practice, tried to take over the earth riding bareback on their bible?

I imagine, that if one were to line up all of the notable scholars, inteligentsia, and genii within the past 1000 years, the majority of them would be self-professed Christians (even if only by circumstance or necessity, considering the era in which they were born).

For the record, I am neither religious, or athiest. It's too bad that I'm having this conversation by myself. This was a good thread. shrug

Bah. Sorry guys, aside from the silly stuff in this thread (IceNine and BBMD please take it to Orgnotes or get a room or something dammit biggrin) this thread is just designed to bait people into an argument with comments such as "they're not as stupid and Christians" etc etc.

Since I've been annointed the Org minister, this thread is now closed. Go now and serve the Lord. Amen.
