I was really going for Lolo Jones too My heart sank for her when she stumbled. At least Sanya got a bronze out of it. I think she was was bullshitting about getting a leg cramp. I'm not a runner, but it looked like she just ran out of steam ...plain & simple. Congrats to Shawn for getting her gold medal. Jeremy Wariner's back. "Don't mess around with the guy in shades. Oh no." He's still rocking those sunglasses. hehe looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

Did someone on NBC really say that Great Britain had won a lot of their medals in obscure sports?
Like what? Rowing, cycling, swimming, athletics...? Someone pissed because we always dominate rowing and cycling? It's nice to see GB having a great games after many disappointments in the past.

Saw a report on Australian's "sour grapes" saying GB only won medals in events where you can sit down! Funny but wrong!

Four horses banned from jumping Olympic final for doping -
HONG KONG, Aug 21, 2008 (AFP) - Four horses have been banned from competing in Thursday's Olympic Games jumping competition for doping, the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) announced here Thursday. The horses - representing Brazil, Germany, Ireland and Norway - had been suspended after testing positive for a prohibited substance, the FEI, which controls the sport, said in a statement. The FEI had no comment on the non-appearance on the list of riders set to compete in the final of US rider Will Simpson. The announcement throws into doubt the medal order of the team jumping competition earlier in the week, in which Norway won a bronze medal, its first ever placing in an Olympics equestrian event. The United States won the gold and Canada the silver. In its statement, the FEI said the four horses had been "provisionally suspended by the FEI further to doping/medication control tests that indicated the present of capsaicin in each horse". "Capsaicin is classified as a 'doping' prohibited substance given its hypersensitising properties, and as a 'medication class A' prohibited substance for its pain relieving properties," the statement said. The stunning development casts yet another shadow over equestrian events generally as it follows a medal re-allocation in Athens, also for doping. It also casts doubt on the future of equestrianism as part of the Olympics. The doping scandal, which broke just hours before the final of the individual jumping contest, also puts show jumping under the microscope once more. A doping scandal cost Germany the team jumping gold in Athens after the horse ridden by Ludger Beerbaum, who is a lynchpin of his country's team here, was disqualified after testing positive for doping. World number one, Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, was left off the German team for Athens after her horse tested positive, though she was later cleared.

US beats Brazil 1-0 for gold medal
BEIJING (AP)—They came to the Beijing Olympics as a team trying to find its way, still adjusting to a new coach and each other, still smarting from a loss that brought humiliation on and off the field. They dropped their first game, hardly an auspicious start for a country that had lost only one other in three Olympics. But bit by bit, game by game, they came together, figuring out what it would take to win. On Thursday night, the U.S. women’s soccer team stood as one, Olympic gold medals around their necks, champions once again.

I don't think there's any beef, but I find that Dominicans and Puerto Ricans are both quick to make the correction when the two are compared or placed in the same box. They are of two different cultures and both are very proud of those cultures. Oh and as for the term Boricua... that comes from the Taino word, Boriken. Puerto Ricans use the term for themselves to show their Taino heritage. The Tainos were the natives of Puerto Rico and although there were later some Tainos that moved into the Dominican Republic, very few Dominicans have Taino blood. That's why they aren't Boricuas (Damn, my Latin American Studies courses have me learning and shit ) didn't make sense edit [Edited 8/22/08 6:36am]

Earlier today, Iceland beat Spain 36-30 in the handball semi-finals, which means that Iceland will be playing for the gold medal against France on Sunday. Practically the whole Icelandic nation was watching the game (except me though, as I'm working night-shifts until Tuesday). Movie theaters had free screenings of the game and even my workplace, which is a store that specializes in stationery products and high-school textbooks, had the game on inside the store through a projector.
If Iceland loses the game on Sunday, this will still be our second silver medal in the Olympics since 1956! But if Iceland wins, it will be Iceland's first gold medal in the Olympic Games. Here's the captain of the team, Ólafur Stefánsson (in red), in action:

The island of Hispaniola (Santo Domingo & Haiti) I think used to be called Quisqueya? There's a friendly rivalry between Puerto Ricans and Dominicans, same as that between Hondurans and Salvadorans or between Koreans and Japanese or between USA/Americans and Canadians or between the French and everyone else. Yes Although, I believe that Quisqueya only referred to the Dominican Republic, not the entire island of Hispaniola. This is why Dominicans are sometimes referred to as Quisqueyanos (I know all of this because my uncle is an owner of a Quisqueya club and he's always telling stories of Dominican history )
