What is the best book about Queen Elizabeth? I just got finished watching both of the Kate Blanchette "Elizabeth" movies.
Aside from the fact I never imagined I'd want to get inside the knickers of anyone in the royal family save maybe Prince Harry or Fergie, I became fascinated by the political, philosophical, and personal stakes at hold during the events leading up to her defeating the Spanish Armada. The love story stuff was rather tedius, but I guess that's a big part of a life of leisure But what are the best books about this woman? I'm utterly fascinated. [Edited 8/7/08 10:44am]

I don't know if it's on DVD, but check out "Elizabeth R" starring Glenda Jackson. IMO, hers was the best portrayal.

I can't believe the sent little kids off to war She had a crazy life - she was only three when her monster of a father had her mother killed, she may have been sexually abused at 15, and during her sister Mary's reign, her life was in danger. She survived it all.

Is she featured in a book called "Sex with the Queen"?
My sister just read it and said it was one of the best most entertaining books she's ever read.

Was it because of the hostile environment in which she lived. ALOT of folks wanted her dead. I've got to order those books this weekend. I can'stop thinking about her

Dude turned England upside-down(breaking with the Cathoic Church) because he was obsessed with producing a male heir. As it turned out, his daughter is considered one of England's greatest monarchs. Her story is one of survival.
