Anyone here a fan of Indian food? One of my dearest friends was born in northern India and moved to the States when he was 9 years old. He's going to cook for me this weekend and he is a vegetarian. Problem is, I dont really care for Indian food. I like a couple dishes but most of it is waaaaay too spicy for my palate. Do you guys like Indian food, if so, what are your favorite dishes?

i love lamb korma. which i guess doesn't help you out because your friend is a vegetarian.

there are some indian dishes that are more mild, i'm sure your friend knows about them.

i also love mango lassi's and garlic naan...

there is no good indian food where i am right now, which kinda sucks.

I love all of it!!

With chicken only though.

There's Indian food made for white people, and real Indian food. Tell your friend to keep it real!

Yes. I like the lassis. They are pretty refreshing. I can eat piles of naan. He was telling me about a cauliflower and potato dish. It sounded disgusting to me.

My faves:

Butter chicken (chicken cooked with tomatoes and cream or butter)
Palak Paneer (curried spinach and cheese)
Aloo Gobi (potatoes and califlower -usually not too spicy)
Tikka Masala (creamy veggie curry, usually with almonds)
Lamb Madras (medium spice curry sauce
Beef Vindaloo (spicy as a mother! don't try this if you don't handle hot stuff well)

Speaking of "Indian" food. Sort of, anyway.

I heard there's a restaurant somewhere in the city I just moved to that serves First Nations food. Sounds like it'll be great for those times when I'm cursing myself for never having learned how to fry bannock or smoke fish. Here's hoping I can find it.

A lot of Indian food probably sounds unpleasant to people not familiar with it -it definitely doesn't look appealing. I'd knock over a bank to get the money to buy Indian food though, it's that good.

Aloo Gobi's usually pretty decent, but if it's not made right it seems to get a little oily.

Big Indian food fan here. YUM.

Usually start with a samosa or a mushroom pakura depending on the restaurant, followed by a nice salan curry.

And I do like to spurge on extra naan if possible.
