Somebody please tell me what the hell is this thing?

Somebody please tell me what the hell is this thing?
What the fuck is this, huh?

People talking about this is a damn raccoon or dog. This ain't no damn dog.
eek

So what is it? And it's not a hoax.

Gawker posted the photo above earlier this week under the headline: "Dead Monster Washes Ashore in Montauk".

The site doesn't mention where the photo came from, but does state "This is an actual monster, some sort of rodent-like creature with a dinosaur beak."

Hamptons-based site Plum is reporting the photo as well. In a post they quote unnamed government biologists as concluding that "no such creature exists". And also quote a graphics specialist at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, who says that if it is fake, it's a "really good Photoshop job."

More from Plum:

The validity of the picture has been further established by the numerous eyewitnesses who saw the animal on the beach in front of Montauk's Surfside Inn. Theories abound as to what the animal is and where it came from. Marci Caplis of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service noted that rare and unknown sea animals did surface after the Asian tsunami, and although the recent East Coast storms are not of comparable magnitude, the animal did wash up on a particularly stormy day in the Hamptons. Others have speculated that the animal escaped from Plum Island Animal Disease Center.
Plum also notes that they will have interviews with the photographer, Jenna Hewitt of Montauk, and two eyewitnesses on their show "The Juice" this Friday.

Already, theories abound on this. Just check out the comments thread on the original Gawker post, or here on their update. Guesses range from the "monster" being a known animal (a turtle without its shell? Or a dog, a thought introduced in a comment left by a forensics expert. A chupacabra?) to an elaborate viral campaign (Cloverfield 2, perhaps?).

The ocean is vast and I don't tihnk it'd be too far of a stretch to call this an undiscovered creature. We haven't even discovered/proven all the species on land, the ocean probaly has 10's of 1,000's of undiscovered animals
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

I love these hoaxes. lol

So like, they find it and then take a pic, and then what? Just leave it there? Cook it and eat it for dinner? Where does it go after they take a pic?

How come no one ever does a post mortem on these 'monsters'? Or send it off for analysis by scientists?

It's real. They were talking about it on CNN. That guy ummm....Jeff Corwin talked about it.

He said that it could be some kind of rare rodent or rare dog. He said that it's real and different. They said the beak is actually a portion of the teeth. I don't believe that crap. I think it's an Alien's pet. eek

No...really. It could be something from the ocean.

I saw CNN once report about a mystery monster that was spotted in someone's backyard.

One look at it I knew exactly what it was. A fox with a severe case of mange.

And then....guess what? Turns out the 'monster' was a fox with mange.

Ya, CNN reporting it definitely means that it's a monster. lol

I can't believe that Jeff Corwin even commented on it. lol

It's a ploy for a new television series on Cartoon Network.
