I have a few guns in the house. No children and they are kept in a gun safe. I would recommend the browning hi-power mark 3. Light weight, excellent balance and high powered. Compact enough to conceal and just a solid pistol all around. The thing about carrying a gun is that even though you may be able to hit a target at the firing line. If you dont understand how to protect it someone is going to get it out of your hand and use it on you. Be careful ...

Yes, I know. The place where I'm going to take my initial class also offers advanced courses in shooting from a holster and if concealed like in a purse or ankle holster.

My primary use is for in-home protection. I also don't have kids. But there've been a rash of home invasions in Dallas and it turns out the ring that was doing this owned a nightclub and they would find victims among the people who valet parked. They were able to find their addresses or sometimes copy the house keys of their key chain and case their homes waiting for a good time to strike. disbelief

well that changes everything. for in home protection a pistol is a poor choice. if someone is in your home u need to be able to put them down without having to worry about aimimg for accuracy. your adrenaline is going to be all jacked up and that makes it difficult. if there is more than one intruder that you are facing a pistol dosent leave much room for error. much less of a chance of jamming and the load will put down eveything in its path.

The question raised on this thread (or at least the underlying machismo) appears to be "guns are for safety and mean i will survive this society longer"

criminals do not obey the law.

Murder is illegal
Robbery is illegal
Rape is illegal

does making something illegal make it stop happening? NO. Therefore making owning a gun illegal will not stop people from having them. MOST criminals who have a gun do not have one legally. Generally it's the criminals we have to worry about not the law obiding citizens.

TASERĀ® C2 Weapons fire with the most stopping power available today - from a safe distance of up to 15 feet away. The new C2 is small and lightweight, easily carried in pocket or purse. Absolutely the best non-lethal protection for personal protection on the street, at home, on business and auto. Easy to conceal, it is legal to own and carry in most states

hmmm

That one looks like a razor. lol

i've actually been considering a taser but i'm still a bit scared of misusing it or having it fall into the wrong hands.

Well, I don't know, it's a lot tougher to get to a shotgun and handle it (for most people) than it is to get to handgun and handle it, especially for most women. For SCNDLS, a 9mm would be sufficient and are pretty reliable.

Yeah i was thinking the same thing. I'm prolly still gonna get a Sig or Glock anyway but I'm going to try different guns first.

The police officer that teaches the class I'm taking sent me the following info.

My experience of the years would recommend you not to get a Sig 9mm. They are GREAT guns, but, heavy and large compared to a lot of other carry options. The main problem is people buy very good, but large handguns. The weight and size soon discourages them from carrying concealed. I recommend you look at:
KAHR ARMS PM9 OR PM40
SIG P232
BERSA THUNDER 380
S&W J FRAME LITE WIEGHTS
TAURUS M85 LITE WIEGHTS
Would be a good place to start when selecting a gun. Even as a police officer, off duty, I carry a 5 shot Taurus Ultra Lite. Comfort of carry is important.

Oh yeah! That's right, you plan on carrying it on your person. Yeah, that's something to think about then. A 5 rounder is cool, but I need at least 10 just in case you get bogged down somewhere and you have to let off a few, ya know? But he's right, carry-comfort is very important, especially for women.

Although, I'm getting my license to carry I don't plan to, I have enough crap in my purse without adding a lethal weapon to the mix. purse Despite his suggestion I'm getting a .9 I just have to find the right one. But I'm glad to get advice and training from an active duty cop of 20+ years experience. thumbs up!

headbang Some of the best one-liners ever:

"Why Ringo? You look like someone just walked over you're grave"

"You're no daisy!"

Doc had all the best lines! lol

And yeah, Beihn become one of my favorite actors after I saw him in Aliens. he was crazy as hell in The Abyss and I liked him in Navy SEALS.

Funniest shit is seeing a thick ass Billy Bob Thornton!

"Go 'head! Skin that smokewagon!" lol

Oh, and when Ike Clanton learns that Doc's a "Lunger," he says "Well I hope you die" as they carry Doc out of the casino - Fucked up and hilarious at the same time! lol

highfive This is actually my favorite Val Kilmer performance. And yes seeing a chubby ass Billy Bob was HILARIOUS! But my favorite part was when he got slapped in the mouf and stood there waiting to be dismissed and Val said, "Oh, Frank, I forgot you were therrre-a." Then he thanked them for taking his gun and letting him leave. falloff
