One of the best things about my Italian grandmother (she came from Calabria) was the food she would cook, and everything she taught me about growing tomatoes, zucchini, basil, oregano, garlic, etc....
And the best thing about my Irish mother is my high tolerance for alcohol and violence. 
My Mohawk grandfather smoked Marlboros like every good Indian I know  and died of lung cancer, and that's a large part of the reason I don't smoke cigarettes.
