Was that written by Joss? I was too lazy to look it up, sorry.

In any event, even without SMG's voice, that was wicked cool.

Man, I love the real show. A friend finally convinced me to give it a try. I blew through seasons 1-3. I'm currently watching season 4 (via Netflix so it's taking awhile, and I can't stand Riley), and I just bought season five.

Season 8 seriously kicks ass.

What I remember reading about the animated series is that there was no interest from the studio anymore so the project was shelved. Is that right?

I think it was floated half assed in general. Josh was also doing a couple of shows and screenplays at the time, Sarah didn't want anything to do with Buffy and everyone had just kinda moved on.

Plus I think the interest in an animated series was waning at the time.

I do like that they went back to the high school era though.

I think Joss get should get off his ass and fish around for interest in an animated movie. I know ages ago there'd been talk of a live action movie based on the series, but honestly that's just not going to happen. SMG isn't interested, and the actors aren't getting any younger. Which is not so much a problem for the human characters, but poses a problem for the vamps. Vampires aren't supposed to age, being dead and all. And Spike and Angel were presumably in their early to mid-20's when they died, but David's 39 and James is 46. The more time goes on, the trickier it'll be to pull them off as dead young men.

Animated is the way to go. They can get the actors back to do voice work, and find somebody else to voice Buffy herself. Maybe work off the continuity for S8, since a lot of people never got into the comics once the show was over.

I really think the best approach overall is to work for the longterm goal of creating a Marvel or DC style franchise for Buffy. I think it'd be interesting and just cool as hell if it could be sustained so that years from now, new actors and writers could take a crack at the story.

Isn't there a new Buffy DS game out soon too?

Season Eight has been a HUGE success so I don't see Joss working on anything Buffy related beyond the books. Plus he has his new TV show with Eliza Dushku coming in January so that's something else to keep him preoccupied. I think Buffy's time on the screen has passed. neutral

I agree. I think he's putting all of his efforts into "Dollhouse." Plus, he's directed two (that I know of) episodes of "The Office." I think he'll stick close to TV, but I don't see him doing anything Buffy-related via the boob tube.

How 'bout a Buffy movie?? The "Sex & the City" movie (no, I'm not comparing the two shoes) did quite well at the box office.

I don't see SMG making "The Grudge 3" anytime soon...

Well like Meow said, the vampires aren't supposed to age, and we wouldn't dare want a Buffy movie without Spike and of course Angel, but alas, they aren't getting any younger.

I never got into the comics because until 2 weeks ago, I was living in a city that literally had nowhere that sold them. Hell, we only had one comic shop and the guy who owned it was definitely NOT a Buffy fan. Called it "chick shit" and refused to stock anything but a few action figures that'd sell fast and make him money, like Spike. confused

Haven't heard anything about a game for DS.

...and that's why I think it should be turned into a franchise proper. If Joss et al aren't interested, someone down the road could pick it up and give it a go.

I really don't know what SMG's problem is. I understand not wanting to be typecast, but everything she's done since has been more or less in the same supernatural vein, but most of it's been utter crap.

James looks much younger than 46, but the plausibility of Spike having died a young man was getting a bit iffy even into S6 and S7 when the show was on the air. Sooner or later, buddy's gonna have some wrinkles that can't be hidden with fang face. As for David? Being a bit younger, Angel's death-age always seemed more plausible....but if you watch his first appearance on Buffy and the final ep of Angel, there was some definite weight gain. Angel can't be that well fed, can he? Do vampires even gain or lose weight?

Animated's the way to go.

Other writers have already had their crack at the current series with Joss only writing the opening story arc.

I'm content to let the series die. No reunion movie, no animation, nothing. There was a good run on TV and if you're really hardcore and want to know what happened next, you have the Buffy and Angel books. Let me see some new ideas from Joss like Firefly a few years ago (awesome) and this new Dollhouse series in January.

As for a Buffy franchise? I was thinking something along the lines of X-Men or Batman that sticks around long enoguh to span decades' worth of writers and story arcs. Let it rest now, if that's what works, and bring it back up in 10 or 20 years with new ideas. I think it could work.

Yeah, until recently I thought he was younger than that. Like I said, the guy looks good.

David still looked great towards the end of Angel. Still looks great now. But he's got some added heft -some of it muscle, some of it not -that I'm not sure how one of the undead could gain. Angel doesn't eat a solid diet of people blood -he's been working off rat and pig blood, and not always that regularly. Really, he should have been skinnier toward the end.

But such as it is when you cast a changeable human in a long-term role as an unchangeable vampire.

Did you watch the entire series? And in the correct order (not in the order it was broadcast)? And then the Serenity movie? All the same elements that made Buffy and Angel great are there too.

I don't know if I want Buffy to last that long. At some point I want to see it put to rest. Unless there's a new series with a new slayer like how Joss did with Fray a few years ago.
