It was really confusing when people (myself included) were using the Prince Fans United avatar. So yes, I think avatars are important.
I prefer to use one with my face on it because I think it makes me more memorable. And I also feel like I'm not hiding behind an avatar. I also like it when other orgers use their face too because I like to pretend like I know what their voice sounds like when I read their posts. CarrieMpls sounds exactly like I pictured it. JustErin's voice was a little higher than I imagined. Sammij voice was pretty much like I pictured it too. Shake it til ya make it  | |

I love avatars and I associate them with everybody's personality 
my personal favorite is Novabreaker's (bugs bunny with 'slave' written on his cheek)
