RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

bawl bawl This seriously makes me cry every time I read it. I remember when I had to put one of my cats down, and started a thread about it on the org. Someone was kind enough to post this on the thread, and I made the mistake of reading it at work. I immediately starting crying and had to go into the bathroom to get myself composed again. redface boxed It sux being a hard-core animal lover like myself. lol

I bawl when even a friend's pet dies. When my own kitty passed 3 years ago I was a wreck for weeks.

Sometimes I wonder why we do this to ourselves. It's not like anyone thinks they'll be able to spend 70 years with Fluffy or Fido. You get their friendship for such a short time and then it's gone. And each time, it's heartbreaking. Losing a pet is like losing a child.

But, like George Carlin said, life is a series of dogs. That's the big secret.

we put ourselves through it for the unconditional love they give us. even the cats love us lol my cat is soo pissed at me when we leave for a while, then he forgives and allows me to pet him, but only where he wants to be petted lol.

dogs are just so grateful and loving. They love us, who we are to our souls and it fulfills us and them. That's why we put ourselves through it, for the pure love. nod

When I was growing up we had lots of pets dogs cats hamsters fish rabbits etc but the only time I cried is when the family dog that had been there since the day I was born had to be put down aged 20. I remember because it had gone blind couldnt walk and was incontinent I remember the day because I had to carry it out to the car to be taken to the vets to be put down. I remember looking at its face for the final time before the door was shut and thinking thats the last time I would ever see it alive that just killed me and I started crying like a baby for about 20 minutes. sad sad

YES!!!
my pets are like family to me. My sheltie has been with me for over 7 years, he is like my child.....I cant imagine losing him
Say it's just a dream...
U open up ur eyes and come 2 realize
u simply imagined this
So u lean over and give her a kiss
Here on earth, here on earth,
with u it's not so bad
Here on earth, here on earth
eye don't feel so sad
Stay right here

I had a dream recently about my old dog Sasha (died in mid-90s). In the dream, she was alive and we were communing somehow. When I woke up, I realized she was gone. There was a deep, heavy ache in my heart from the loss and missing her, as if she had just been alive minutes before.

In some ways, it was a gift to know that she is still so present in my consciousness. nod Pets go deep, maybe moreso for a child?
