lol

Yeah, but I'd still be in the US of A, and I'm becoming more and more of a crazy conspiracy theorist about this place. I find it really likely that we'll be living under something close to martial law before my life is over.

When I was a kid I used to have fears and weird dreams about cameras watching people, and computers tracking your every action/purchase/personal info, and that's becoming more and more the reality. The Patriot Act has insinuated itself into every area of American life, and it terrifies me.

lurking

Don't report me to the FBI or anything. I don't want to assassinate anyone, I just want to get outta here!

It could also be argued that this nation was created by martial force in the first place. lol

Yes, all it ever really was was a vision, a nice philosphy created by rich land holders and slave owners

I used to be highly critical of the U.S. (still can be) but after spending some time in the Middle East and marrying an Egyptian for a while, my perspective really, really changed. There's a reason people from all over the world are on waiting lists to come here and people risk their lives and families to get here and live illegally.

I really believe that sooner or later people will be risking their lives to leave here. Like I said, it's just my ideas about what has begun to happen and will continue to happen here.

maybe so, but don't you think this country is on the precipice of change?

I'm an ultra-liberal, but I simply can't hang with this cynicism. It's a gift to live here. I spent 5 years helping someone get a green card and witnessed the suffering and the craving for opportunities that we take for granted. It's a privilege, IMHO.

I see more cameras on the streets in this country than I did in the states. Maybe they hid them better there.

Just throwing this out there (not to rain on your blunt parade, but): Amsterdam gets cold. Don't the canals freeze over in the winter (and people ice skate on them)? Although probably not as cold as Boston....not sure.

What about some Caribbean island? Too hot?

My wife and I are looking around also, probably won't happen for a while though (we do have the fear that eventually we won't be allowed to leave) Forgetting everything else just the reality of New Orleans would put that thought in our heads. We really like the idea of somewhere in the mediterranean, but haven't looked closely at it yet.

I have done the same, for dozens of people in my former job.

And it sickened me to see just how much suffering they went through just jumping through the hoops this governmet has set up. Someone being denied the chance to come and live here with their family because their photos didn't exactly fit the specified size down to the pixel? Gimme a fucking break.

yes, it's a very arbitrary system. Little rhyme or reason to it. And the country knowingly capitalizes on illegal labor while denying people who support this economy basic human rights.

Sure, it's too hot, but up north it's quite mild during parts of the year. Loads of beaches, weed not a problem, qood international schools, the occasional coup, cheap food, cheap alcohol, and if you can conceive of something you can nearly always do it. Did I mention it's cheap? smile

San Fran DOES rock, if you moved here we'd practically be neighbors and if you're as Mistress as you seem to be you'd fuckin' LOVE Folsom Street Day!!! (http://folsomstreetfair.org/index.php)

It's a gas! The sheer specatacle of the entire BDSM community parading their stuff out in the open, during broad daylight is truly one of the modern wonders of the world. You haven't lived until you've witnessed a friendly flogging in front of a furniture store while a bunch of squares stand around slack jawed. It's frikkin hilarious!!!
