I swear, there is not ONE movie besides this film, that makes me fall to my knees in tears every time I watch it. Not even The Colour Purple (and God knows I cry everytime I watch that). But "Glory" makes me...just fall to pieces. If you haven't seen it, PLEASE rent it. It's the true story of the 54th Massachusetts regiment during the Civil War. Matthew Broderick plays Robert Gould Shaw, the abolitionist leader of this regiment. My God, what a film. You know some films that make you cry, make you cry at the end? Not this one (for me anyway). I cried all THROUGH this movie. I've seen it like, 6 times, or so. Again, I implore, to watch this film. I used to think Black history started with Dr. King. Once I saw this film, I realized it started way earlier than that. Hopefully, you will too.

i saw Glory when it first came out...it was so long ago all I remember was being annoyed that Mathew Broderick's character was even in the film...

but, now that i am much older, maybe i should revisit it.

Great movie, but X (another Denzel flick) really gets me.m The way the story was laid out, you can really see the evolution of Malcom. Granted, it may not be 100% true to life, but it was pretty darn close to what I read in the autobiography. As a story it really hit home. At the end, i felt that he was a wise man who was able to sort through the crap, find the locked boxes of peoples minds and open them with his speech as the key. His death was very premature, and the story really made you feel that.

Glory was great on that level as well. Our class had a very nice and long discussion about the end of the movie where they showed the relief. Our prof made note that for many years, the city and the people of the city seems to treat the relief like a bastard child, not getting any recognition in the "things to see" or locals knowing where the releif was. I don't know if that wsa the case, but it was a nice conversation about cultures and expectations.

We were JUST talking about this movie yesterday in
another thread...what a trip...definitely one of
my favorite movies...I just saw it for the 4th time
last week and believe it or not, it was playing during
this year's Celebration.

Stopped by my girl Barbi's room on the way to Paisley
and made everyone wait while my favorite part of the
movie was on...the night before they take the fort
and they were singing, while giving their prayers and testimonials...the evolution of Denzel's character turning from a violent rebel to a loving gentle spirit...simply beautiful...

This one gets me too. I think Matthew Brodrick did a great job, but, of course, Denzel & Morgan Freeman were incredible.

I always get chills at the end before the last battle when they are marching on the beach.
I DON'T cry at movies...but for some reason at then end when they are all being buried in the mass grave I get all choked up.

Roots Moves Me Far More."Glory" was Good but it didn't strike a Chord with Me like "Do The Right Thing".the Movie was Pushed for Matthew Brodick.typical HollyWood Film where The White Hero has too lead the Negroes.same vibe with "Amistad",etc...

It is a great movie. Saw it years ago at the movie theatre and recently on t.v. It is sad that Shaw got killed and I was mad how his regiment were treated like shit. It is sad, I think because of those damn violins that keep playing that sad tune. (now where are the tissues).

But what was really touching was when they buried Shaw in the same ditch as his men.

Glory is a good film. Roots did it for me. Denzel Washington has been screwed out of winning oscars. He should have won the best actor Oscar when he played X. Hollywood is so fixed, they gave the brother the best actor award in Traning Day by portraying a corrupt cop. I would much rather seen him win the Oscar in X instead of Training Day portraying a crooked cop.
