I've heard that DSL is better because you are on it by yourself, where as with cable you share with others who are subscribed, which may slow down your connection. I have cable and it seems okay to me.

DSL sucks and is slower than cable in most cases, but cable sucks and AT&T Broadband can eat a dick... I have AT&T cable... it pisses me off frequently.

Yes, cable can be slow at times, but my main problem is not getting connected, that's why I'm exploring other avenues.

What's wrong with DSL?

That's not what Ameritech told me when they called and tried to get me to sign up for DSL... They got me, they convinced me that it was better, so I ordered it... came to my senses and returned the stuff to them.

I need to learn to say "NO!".

What was your experience with DSL, did you get connected?

No, I returned it before I ever hooked it up.

Try this link:

This link shows the fastest providers:

Most of the fastest ones are cable services...

if this adds anything ...

I have verizon DSL ... and i was fully prepared to HATE it ... (because of past scraps with verizon) ... but i have to say i like it ... have not had one problem.

i have heard people with Comcast cable say they were not happy ... but that was months ago ... and now they are saying positive things about it ... (some "software kinks" were worked out )

I have Comcast and luckily I didn't have any problems with them... a friend of mine has and is still continuing to have problems with them.

Now... MSN Dial-up is horrible! I have that on my laptop and I am forever having problems staying online or signed in!

I would cancel, but I fell for Best Buy's ploy and signed up for a three year contract so I could get $400 worth of merchandise. I think I only have one year to go and I can get rid of it!

The two technologies do not carry with them any differences in terms of "reliability" (which is a vague term... it can be applied to anything from packet loss to service availability). Those issues are dependent on many factors not least the network provider.

I think the question you should be asking "can anyone in area XYZ recommend a good reliable cable or DSL provider?".

I use DSL provided with my phone line Pacbell. I barely have problems with connection to the internet and much faster downloading stuff.

Find out how far you are from the CO(main office)for dsl.If you are under 14,000 feet from the CO your dsl should have no problems and go at superfast speed.I have dsl as 17,000 feet and have never had any problems. The only complaints i have ever heard about dsl was getting started. Most people i talk to that changed from cable to dsl are happier with the dsl.

I have NTL Broadband cable @ home. It's just gone from 500kbps to 600kbps for nothing extra.though i pay £24.99 per month for it! (don't know how that compares to U.S. Prices)

@ work, where i am at the moment, it's slower than a dial up connection. It's terrible!
