Now its Eva Mendes’ turn to check in to rehab.

My theory is the death of Heath Ledger combined with the amount of drugs ingested at this year’s Sundance Film Festival has caused a spike in rehab for otherwise functional alcoholics and crazies.

The news coming from the publicists that lie work for Eva Mendes is that she is in rehab for “personal issues” as opposed to earlier reports which stated she is battling a substance abuse problem.

Here’s the official bullshit statement:

“Eva has been working hard for the past year and made a positive decision to take some much-needed time off to proactively attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she felt deserved some outside professional support. Out of respect for Eva’s privacy, we do not wish to discuss further details.”

The 33 year old “Ghost Rider” star has apparently spent several weeks at Cirque Lodge in Utah, where Lindsay Lohan was recently treated.

Mendes was named “Sexiest Actress” of 2008 by Victoria’s Secret, and Calvin Klein announced Friday that she will be featured in an upcoming Calvin Klein Fragrances advertising campaign, which will debut Fall 2008.


At last year’s Cannes Film Festival, Mendes told reporters that to feel comfortable doing a sex scene with Joaquin Phoenix in “We Own the Night“, which also starred Mark Wahlberg and Robert Duvall, she required a drink. Who knew that kissing Joaquin’s hair-lipped mouth would require a foreign substance for the actress… It’s called acting dammit!
