I'm starting this tread because I recently noticed that Christian Bale who is of English decent sometimes speaks with an American accent and Johnny Depp who is American has adopted a European accent of some sort, yet Madonna (an american) spoke with an English accent and people gave her so much shit for it. How come no one says anything about Johhnny and Christian? I personally could care less I just don't think it's fair to jump on Madge for this but not the other two. What gives?

They pick on her because she is by far the most popular.

I haven't noticed it except when they play English/American roles. Madonna's done it in real life. I don't know, it's odd. I knew English people who didn't lose their accents over the course of living in America.

Nothing wrong with absorbing your surroundings, Madonna just seems like she's trying so hard to not be the squeaky voiced trashy girl from Detroit.

Because Bale & Depp are actors... therefore acceptable because maybe they are just acting...

Madge, however, couldn't act to save a baby seal and therefore it comes across as fake...
