I always had great luck with cars until yesterday A month ago I bought a sweet, beautiful used Toyota. Yesterday I was parked at a meter in the city, when I accidently revved the engine while in park. Something exploded. A very thick metallic part disintegrated into rubble. There is a hole in the engine and a replacement costs $3500, more than I paid for the car.

if it was going to blow, it was going to blow. wouldn't have mattered if you were in park or driving. revving or idling. ohhh ouch

That's horrible ~ any chance the seller will back it , or was there any type of warranty? Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran

I had the same happening, not with a Toyota, while doing 70 on the freeway. Blew a hole in the engine AND the hood Lucky for me that was a company car. They changed the engine. I'd try to look at other 2nd hands of the same type and have the motor switched, then collect for the leftover metal if that in any way may reduce the price.

I just spoke to the mechanic. There's a six inch hole in the engine with a rod sticking out. He said otherwise the car was in great shape and I could sell it for parts, or to someone who already has an engine.
