I always had great luck with cars

until yesterday confused

A month ago I bought a sweet, beautiful used Toyota.

Yesterday I was parked at a meter in the city, when I accidently revved the engine while in park. Something exploded. A very thick metallic part disintegrated into rubble. confused

There is a hole in the engine and a replacement costs $3500, more than I paid for the car.

That's horrible ~ any chance the seller will back it , or was there any type of warranty?

that's what the mechanic told me

guess it's a good thing I was parked when it happened. sad

BlueZebra

I had the same happening, not with a Toyota, while doing 70 on the freeway. Blew a hole in the engine AND the hood eek Except for the bang and the car losing power, nothing much happened, I rolled it to a halt on the emergency strip.

Lucky for me that was a company car. They changed the engine. I'd try to look at other 2nd hands of the same type and have the motor switched, then collect for the leftover metal if that in any way may reduce the price.

I just spoke to the mechanic. There's a six inch hole in the engine with a rod sticking out. neutral It was a complete fluke due to the fact it was a Toyota and these things just don't happen on these cars. He said it may be due to the previous owner mistreating the engine, driving without oil... whatever.

He said otherwise the car was in great shape and I could sell it for parts, or to someone who already has an engine.

Our Toyotas are failing us! omfg My old Corolla just came from the shop a couple of weeks ago. lol $3500 is pricey for an older car. I doubt I could shell out that much. Ouch.

lol I don't know. The ones I know last a long time. A few kinks here & there, but an overall long life. Mine's been in the shop a few times....still ticking. I'm ready for a VW though. I've always liked VWs. Something with overhead airbags.
